Yes, I've been 'sacked' from quite a few jobs. I can't seem to enter a email address in here. i haven't been as lucky to go and study so I ended up in retail management. They contacted the employer when I told them that they had still not put the adjustments in place but the employer just ignored their email.

Thanks for your reply we have already contacted a solicitor.  I would like to know if anyone else has been through the same.

Liam is 23 years old and has been employed by the same employer for just over 3 years, he was taken on following a work experience placement from Frairbridge. They changed his role aprox 18 months after this and then said he was making mistakes and tried to sack him.  We realised at this point that we needed to get a formal diagnosis and did so. Liam then had a workplace assessment done.

Cutting a long story short his very short sighted employers seem to not believe that he has a disability and have not tried to make any effort to put any adjustments in place.  He ended up off on sick due to bullying from them and then they sacked him.

I'm not a parent but a 23 year old with aspergers (very high functioning). This has happened to me to. I'm happy to discuss with you or your son if your still looking for advice etc.

Also, as the NAS did the workplace assessment, can they not advise the (ex) employer of their responsibilities?

When you say "adult" child are you conveying that he has aspergers and learning difficulties that severely limit what he can do, and requires a work placement, or is he fairly able aspergers trying to get employment in an ordinary job?

It might make a difference to what people can say to help.

Even very able aspergers (aspergians - as has lately been suggested) are likely to encounter difficulty holding down a job. There is a discrepancy between the diagnostic characteristics explained to employers and the actual difficulties people encounter.

But if he is in a supported workplace unit, that should include all the adjustments he needs.
