What would make you happier?

When I wuz a nipper aged about 5 my dad asked me which of three things would I choose if I could only have two.

Out of Health, Wealth or Happiness, I "chose"  health and wealth only for him to suggest that without happiness what woudl be teh point of having the other two?

That kind fatherly lesson and correction to my thinking has helped me enormously in focussing upon what is, and is not, really important.

Let's not kid ourselevs boys and girls we OBVIOUSLY want lashings of all three, but in the real reality, resources & qualities are scattered about unevenly, life is essentially UNFAIR, some of us are born into the wrong bodies (or even species!) but theoretically "Happiness" is an unlimited resource that merely needs to be accessed!

MANY of us it seems are unhappier than the majority and carrying the co-morbities that result from being really unhappy too in many cases.

NOW before you all start getting political, (I know what you 'spergs are like, I is one myself!) this is more about thinking and sharing what would make YOU happier personally.

If anyone wants to know why I am asking this, (some of you have found me untrustworthy I believe) I'm happy to explain, but for now I'm asking the question what would make you happier?

  • I would like to say happiness but I know that’s just an emotional response and it’s not something that’s constant. I know it’s not on the list but I would choose to be calm for the rest of my days. I believe that would help a lot towards health and probably throw a bit of happiness my way as well.

  • People to actually listen to me instead of asking what I'd like or want or need then telling me what they think it means. To not to have to keep repeating myself to some lackwit with defective hearing and understanding, for people to actually read case notes, otherwise whats the point of having them?

Less technology, it hasn't made things easier, it's made things more difficult as when it dosen't work nobody knows what to do, I spent ages stood in a queue at the pharmacy earlier listening to people complaining that they've not recieve thier meds, the pharmacy hasn't recieved the prescriptions and nobody knows what to do. I'm so glad that my surgery dosen't insist on this stupid method for ordering repeat prescriptions.

To be able go out for a meal or get a takeaway that isn't going to make me ill.

To be able to get clothes and shoes in my size without the heartbreaking hassle and bugeration.

That will do for now but I could go on!

  • I-Sperg, so much of what can make us unhappy, angry and frustrated is caused by the lack of competance of others, we have more ways than ever to communicate with each other and yet when people say they'll get back to you they rarely do.

If you have a problem with something you either end up on hold for hours or get told to go online where you get a load of frequently asked questions that never seem to match your own query.

Any complaint is taken as rudeness and aggression, when all you want are your legal rights.

Why bother asking a queston if you're not going to listen to the answer? I'm sure we've all had experiences of doctors writing a prescription before we've barely sat down, let alone explained why we're there. In relationships it's worse, both parties end up frustrated and upset.

Why is it unreasonable to expect tech thats being foisted on people, like repeat prescription ordering systems to work? I fear that with the massive AI roll out the government is planing that this sort of thing will get worse not better, the computer says no will be an even greater feature in our lives than it is now.

  • If I thought my O/H would go for it, I'd propose a temproary house swap!!

I could definitely use a nice low cost holiday by the sea, inspecting and where possible fixing someone's faulty electricals, and you'd no doubt enjoy being within ten miles of at least two universities for a while.

But probably hate everyting else. I live in one of the actual (thinly disguised) outer circles of hell, I have come to believe...

  • I don't think competance is to much to ask for, but obfuscation seems to be the order of the day. The lamp still whines and the fridge still moo's at us

I would like a massive book budget and access to a university library.

  • A lot of the stuff you state would make you happy requires that OTHER PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOUR.

I noticed this, because believe it or not, in some ways based on what I read of what you write you and I have shared values. (And some of the important ones too).

I hope my observation might lead you to also seek some happinesses that don't require the co-operation of other folk, to sustain you as you wait for the things you detail above to take place.

Please accept my apologies for my way of communicatng, it reads a bit "patronising" even to me, which is not my intent, but I'm trying to show you something you may have not noticed, that may have been sabotaging your happiness for quite a while.

I know "it did a number" on me before I adjusted some of my expectations to align closer to what reality usually delivers...

BTW, whenever I see your name here, I always briefly hope you've got that weird little electrical fault in your table lamp sorted out by now..
