Ruling the World

What would you do if you suddenly became empress/or of everything? Obviously we'd all stop wars, end world hunger etc etc, but what more personal things would you do?

I'd make us able to walk a mile in another persons shoes, so we'd get to know what it felt like to be NT and of course they would feel ours.

There are more personal things I'd like to be rid of like all members of the turnip family, BBQ's and people stating the bleeding obvious as though it's some sort of massive revelation.

I'd make shoe and clothing manufacturers make clothes and shoes in a wider range of sizes, shapes, colours and styles AND MOST IMPORTANTLY keep seeling jumpers althrough winter, and not just xmas jumpers, I want normal jumpers!

I'd make the internet work properly, like it used to, when you could search for something and actually get results matching your search criteria and not give you air fryers when you want wellingtons, stuff like that.

  • I'd make us able to walk a mile in another persons shoes

That phrase. It always reminds me of the joke….before you criticise someone always walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they don’t like what you say, you’re a mile away and you’ve got their shoes.

It would be good if we could get the materials to make our own clothes, haberdashry shops are almost a thing of the past, we still have one, but it focus's more on the craft side than the clothes making side. Buying nice fabric has become a nighmare, as with everything else it's all online, I think to judge whether a fabric is right for what you want to make you need to feel it, see it in different lights, does it drape in the way you need? The same with wool, that's got hard to find and expensive, it used to be that making clothes yourself was cheaper than going to a shop, but not now, it's more a premium product, which is great if you're already a good knitter or sewer, but not if you're just learning.

I think more people are getting into growing their own food, waiting lists for allotments are huge in many places, many schools have outdoor class rooms where they learn about all sort of things, from growing their own food, to soil health, about wildlife and how important it is.

One of the things I'd like to see, is more people being taught how to cook and shop, you may think everybody can shop, but I think because so few people can cook properly, they get confused when an ingredient is out of stock, or another bug bear of mine, the ingredient they want has stopped being stocked, only to be replaced by kits. People need to know what alternatives there are. I think people need to know how to choose pots and pans too, some cheap ones you could burn water in they're of such poor quality, you need different pots and pans for different things too. Why when you buy a pack of pans is the big one not big enough to hold enough pasta, rice, potatoes etc for 4 people? You don't need masses of stuff, but you do need the right stuff.

I'd stop putting everyting online too, I want shops, real shops, that sell real things and not be told when I ask if they have the irem I want in a different size or colour to be told to look online.
