Well folks it is the sequel nobody wanted except trumpites!
The world has just got a more dangerous place. Enjoy it while we can.

I find it incredibly depressing and I can't look at it like Iain does, I think we could well see Fortress America and Trump turning away from the rest of the world and focussing on those he considers "the enemies within", MacCarthyism all over again? I wonder how many people will leave the country from fear? What will he do if someone like Bezos decides to headquarter outside the US? I can't see anything other than an unholy mess.
I hope Britain and Europe will become closer and co-operate more on security and economc issues. I think the world will orrientate more towards China with America off the international stage except for occaisional tub thumping from Trump. I don't think Ukraine will accept any dilution of its borders whether Trump thnks it's a good idea or not, it's to use one of his favourite phrases 'a bad deal'. I know he's said he wants to put massive import charges on China and lower ones on the rest of the world, I think the rest of the world and China should collectively tell him to do things with lots of FF's in them.

I was thinking more along the lines of the night of the long knives from 1930s Germany. He shows clear fascist tendancies and made it clear he would purge his enemies within to give himself unlimited power...
What will he do if someone like Bezos decides to headquarter outside the US?
He could sieze the operation and turn it over to Musk to run. If it is in the "national interests" then he can get away with anything.

Without heavy funding then Ukraine can't afford to keep feeding its war machine and Russia will be able to roll over it due to lack of ammunition in the end. Europe will have a hard time if Trump starts penalising them for supporting his mate Putins enemies as he has repeatedly said he will.
The thing is we can't do anything about any of this so it will just be like watching a horror film - just keep reminding yourself that it isn't happening to you and it makes it a bit less scary.

Do you think Ukraine will just give up and accept a loss of territory and not be allowed to join the EU or NATO? Which is what Putin wants, I'm not sure they will, they might refuse to surrender, theres plenty of precedent for small embattled countries refusing to surrender, us during WW2 for example, maybe the logical thing would of been to give up, but sometimes fighting to the bitter and bloody end is the only right thing to do., who know's you might even win? European governments were happy to offer Zelinsky sanctuary, expecting them to roll over belly up, he and they didn't, they fight, and seeing as Russia has brought N Koeans in to help with the dying I'm not sure his situation is as secure as we're led to believe?
I ask the questions that instantly spring to mind when someone says something, there's often quite a queue of them.
I sometimes don't want logical answers or practicle help, sometimes I just want to let off steam, often people try and give me solutions that I've already tried and they've not worked, when that happens I feel gaslit and talked down too, especially when I've already explained the things I've tried and failed at. The problem with logical solutions in they're in the box and usually I want an out of the box one, in the box solutions are often simplistic especially when the problems ar ecomplex. There are some things I just can't do, like tech, I don't know why, but it all goes wrong.
I'm autistic and yet I've had to learn to take the feelings of others into consideration, even when it's to my own disadvantage, so I guess we will have to agree to differ unless you want to explore the difference between instinctive and logical ways of living more?
I'm not sure about the laws of entropy and the death of the universe
This comes from the second law of thermodynamics. I won't try to explain the mechanics in case it comes across as mansplaining so I'll leave it to you whether you want or need to look it up.
The outcome is that when looking to the far distant future, all heat and energy will dissapate through space until the whole universe reaches an equilibrium or average temperature which is very close to absolute zero (-273 Celcius).
I'm a much more instinctual person, it dosen't stop me from asking questions or from exercising intellectual rigour.
Can you explain how you can exercise intellectual rigour without logic? This seems paradoxical to me.
when offering your practicle help you don't stop to consider any feelings
That is because of my autism - I'm not good with understanding others feelings so I use logic to give a reasoned potential solution. I'm not good at understanding why you reject logic or practical help when offered.
It may be safer to accept our differences
I do worry about climate change, and I do believe that all of us individually can be part of the solution with the choices we make, a choice that America with its oil loving, environmentally destructive president elect has made that will put the world back decades in reducing climate change.
I'm not sure about the laws of entropy and the death of the universe, we don't even know how it started yet unless you cling to the holed blanket that is the big bang theory?
I don't want practicle help, this isn't something to be practicle about, when offering your practicle help you don't stop to consider any feelings, it feels like you're saying don't worry your pretty little head about such things and clam down dear, that may not be how you intended your comments to appear, but thats how they appear to me, especially when you start to comment on my health, you've never met me, you don't know how robust or no I am and I'm pretty robust.
I worry about all sorts of things, unlike you I look for ways to mitigate the impacts of these things, even if they're tiny and ultimately futile, at least I can look myself in the eye and know I did my best.
By the way I think logic is over rated, we mostly know what we want to do and going to do, logic is just a set of excuses to justify our action and create a wall of righteous words. I'm a much more instinctual person, it dosen't stop me from asking questions or from exercising intellectual rigour.
Follow logic WTF, where is there any logic in this situation,
The logic is that it is unchangable and worry only makes you unwell so finding ways to stop worrying is the sensible way to stop the impact.
Why not worry about global warming, population growth exceeding the planets ability to support it, the suns eventual end through going nova or the long, slow death of the universe through the laws of entropy causing everything to eventually fizzle out and go cold.
In effect you cannot meaningfuly impact any of these things so worrying about them achieves nothing - it is only a waste of effort and damages you in some way.
Hence why I suggested an approach to put all this in contect for better mental health and (as a result) physical health.
nor does being told not to worry that just feels like being gaslit and is incredibly patronising too.
I'm not gaslighting you - I'm trying to offer very practical support. Please don't demonise me for this.
Follow logic WTF, where is there any logic in this situation, Anyway don't you know logic is just a set of excuses for your intuition!
I could say the serenity prayer from now until I die, but it's not going to make me feel any better about Trump or what he will do to the world. I may not be able to change anything, but that dosen't make me feel better, nor does being told not to worry that just feels like being gaslit and is incredibly patronising too.
How can I bury my head in the sand and pretend it's not happening? It is happening and it's incredibly worrying and depressing.
Because you cannot change it or influence it in any meaningful way.
If you follow your logic then you end up worrying about so much stuff you cannot control that you will end up in a tailspin.
A great way to deal with this it using the serenity prayer (not really a religious thing, more of a spiritual thing): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_Prayer
I use a modified version of this:
grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill because they peed me off!
Obviously not intended 100% as written but this it it in spirit
How can I bury my head in the sand and pretend it's not happening? It is happening and it's incredibly worrying and depressing.
I do wonder if many people like Bezos haven't got an exit stragegy in place already and can relocate at the click of a button? I certainly think many ordinary people with skills will leave, the sorts of people who make a country work, engineers, teachers doctors etc. We've seen it happen in other countries and it hastens the downward spiral of a country, I don't see this ending well for anyone.
