Penguin Thread!!

I remembered that I had seen several penguins over the last few years, so I thought why not make a thread! Real penguins, cuddly toy penguins, cartoon penguins. There are no rules, as long as it is about penguins.

I do have a handful of pictures, but I will drip feed them to keep this thread alive for a few days.

Also, the funniest one is one that my wife took, so I need to ask her to find it.

This fellow was taken in World of Dinosaurs - Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire in August 2022. I was very lucky to get her/him looking at me at the moment that I took it. The best thing about it was that they kept on going in the side-door (not pictured) and coming out of the pictured door. It was really funny.

  • They have cups like that at the zoo I go to, I bought one

  • Sorry, don't have them now as gave them away. If I did though I am afraid my technology doesn't run to that, hence why I don't have a picture. I have been told how to, but still couldn't work it out.

I have a book that was my Mum's and it has lots of knitted characters, a bit like the ones people do for the tops of post boxes. When my son was young I knitted quite a few little animals, snowmen etc.

  • Oooh post ! Post! Post your knitted penguin! Penguin

  • I love watching penguins, they are quite entertaining.

Pingu is quite a fun cartoon to watch.

The biscuit form are enjoyable and have branched out into different flavors and unlike other chocolate biscuits they seem to still be the same size. The only difference is the plastic wrappers, which used to be foil and paper.

I have a knitting pattern for little penguins which I have made in the past.

  • Yes! Frobisher was a shape-shifter private detective who tailed the Doctor for a while (this was in the 1980s comic strips in Doctor Who Magazine), became his friend, and then travelled with him. When they land at the South pole he becomes a penguin to blend in, but then decides he kind of likes the look and will just stay that way. It nicely parallels the TARDIS keeping the police box disguise all this time.

  • That looks an uplifting watch, must get round to it!

  • My favourite pengeng, Frobisher. They made a great team...

  • Spotted these during a rare outing yesterday and thought of your thread Blush

  • I took this at the London aquarium last year.

  • I often wonder why brands don't re-use some of their most successful and memorable advertising campaigns from "the olden days". The best ones have permanent homes in my memory and still pop up, to this day, whenever I think about their products.

  • The second thing was Benedict Cumberbatch being publicly shamed (in jest) by Graham Norton.

The relevant part starts at 3 mins and 17 secs into this clip:

  • It's great that people recorded these. I've not seen that advert in over 40 years, I guess!

  • For those who are old enough to know what I'm talking about, one of the first thoughts that came into my mind was:

    P-P-Pick up a penguin ! Smiley

  • My Penguin Friend (2024) came out this year. I don't know anything about it or when it is available online.

"Inspired by a true story; an enchanting adventure about a lost penguin rescued from an oil spill, who transforms the life of a heartbroken fisherman. They soon become unlikely friends, so bonded that even the vast ocean cannot divide them."
