Can you afford your special interests?

We hear so much about autistic people and special interests and so many people have them and enjoy them, but we never hear about people who can't afford them, what do they do?

I can't afford mine, I love early medieval history and things associated with it, such as archeology, but I can't afford it, I could easily spend £3-400 on books every month, many of the books I'd like are out of print or in limited print runs and cost between £80 and £200, I've looked online and many are as expensive as ebooks as they are print editions, if they exist as ebooks at all. Many journals are expensive too and online resourses are too and many are really aimed at organisations such as universities rather than private people.

It's frustrating to have an interest that I find so consuming, but can't afford to follow or find others to even talk about it with, but then how many people know the Anglo-Saxon conversion period even existed, let alone know anything about it?

  • In terms of money yes in terms of space no

I'm limited to 4 small shelves for board games 1 draw for all my dnd stuff 1 draw off wii games 1 drawer of playing and trading card games a drawer for my console leads and padd 2 small comic book drawers a shared book shelf 1 dvd stand for ps2 games and 1 for dvds

I have lots of interests but I hyper focus on one like I might spend hours studying dnd rules or I might spend weeks perfecting a set of my ps2 game collection I even once lost a full evening and night organising and sorting ps2 memory cards books will get rearranged until I'm happy with how the shelf looks

I even sometimes have to sell things in order to keep things in the right order and only then is .y mind at rest

In terms of money I just refuse  to buy ps5 plus older games feel better they are a one off consumption cost they're full of things to discover(which excites my trait for researching a special intrest)

As a kid of maybe 12 or 13 a school friend asked why I would fixate on tekken  for so long and the  next month it might be tony hawk well now I have discovered what a special interest means I know why

I always thought it was one or two speical areas but thinking back my cousin has aspergers and he has millions of subjects of encyclopedic knowledge that he loves
