Hiya. So I love copying different accents I just find it fun. I hear an accent and I’ll copy whatever that person has said. I live in Cheltenham now so there’s a whole range and of accents here and I just really enjoy copying them!! does anyone else do it?
I also love the Welsh accent; but associate it with Chavs.
I’m part Welsh but i almost never hear the accent anymore but i like the way they drag thier vowels
I love them all speak to me in an Irish accent you have my full attention
Good point! I don't actually know the difference but it's something I'll have to pay more attention to. We went to Belfast when I was 9-10. I loved it there, seeing the birthplace of RMS Titanic was amazing as well. So much history. It was an interesting place to visit.
The Welsh accent is lovely as well, especially when spoken by a cute Welsh hunk, speaking as an older Irish gay man (I’ve dated several Welsh men and all of them have been drop dead gorgeous)
I sometimes do it unconciously, I mirror speach patterns too. I can see it would be annoying, especially if someone's doing it to be annoying.
There are many different types of Irish accents both north and south, such as Belfast, Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Cavan, Louth, Donegal, Limerick, Tipperary, to name a few
My fave to hear is Irish as well. I've got an natural Somerset accent, though I don't really hear it much anymore. I like accents there's so really beautiful sounding ones.
Cool!
Any that I am familiar with = a lot.
What ones can you do?
I love the Irish accent it's my fave.
To do probably Aussie or Somerset and my favourite one to hear is probably Irish followed by Scottish
Manchesters is very back in the throat isn’t it? Love the Yorkshire accent! Never heard a Dutch one
That’s fair I honestly am not doing it to take the mick and I’d never intentionally hurt someone’s feeling by copying them. Sometimes I don’t do it intentionally either it just happens someone will say something and I will just repeat it!
Yes Andi, I do.
I have a lot of imaginary sketches, in my head;
Favourite accents:
1. Canadian.
2. Manchester.
3. Yorkshire.
4. Dutch.
5. Belfast.
As another Scot I have to agree. Many years ago I had a London-based customer who made fun of my accent on a regular basis until a coworker put a stop to it. It never occurred to him that his accent sounded ridiculous to me.
andi said:I hear an accent and I’ll copy whatever that person has said
As a Scot who still has a strong accent I have to say that this quickly becomes annoying.
It feels like I'm being mocked for having a different accent, and as an autist it adds to the feeling of being picked on for being different.
It may be worthwhile considering this before mimicking the person if they are within earshot in future.
