Non verbal 4 years old

Hi everyone,

Similar to some other parents, we have just found ourselves in a situation when our lovely 4 years old has been diagnosed with autism. She does not talk like us, she says some words on her own way, but not all the time. For example she says kiss like 'iss' or call orange 'porche' can count till 10, but not pronouncing the words properly, or she can say bye. I am just petrified of 'if's. What if she will never talk? She doesn't respond to sign, pecs etc. I have heard about sound therapy, but I am not sure if it's a real solution. Could you please give me some advice and maybe share your experience.  Whether you have met with similar speaking pattern if I can say like this.

  • Hi, I don't know if you still check you messages but I'm Jo and have a 3 year old non verbal autistic daughter, my daughter sings all the songs from trolls, sing, hotel translyvania, she can count to ten, she can say hungry or drink or milk but she doesnt respond to her name and cant have a conversation like other children.

Have you been advised how she processes information? Does she use Gestalt Language Processing where she learns in chunks rather than single words? This is what I learnt about my own 3 year old. I have had to do autism courses to help me understand her.  Is she currently at nursery? We are going through issues with our daughter not wanting to wear coats with it getting colder and she also spits her drink out for her characters to jump in like peppa pig?

My daughter loved Miss Rachel as well as this zooms in on the mouth as they are saying the words which is another way that she learns.

Hope this helps and I would love to hear about your experiences if you can relate to anything else I have said.
