Book reccomendation please for parents with Autistic/Aspergers adult Son

Hi Everyone

I am still learning how this group works, and I am not used to discussing this with anyone, so not sure on alot of terminology etc, so please bare with me.

My son is late 20's, has undiagnosed Autism and/or aspergers, he has a successful career mainly working from home.  He has no interest in socialising and is extremely driven, is sensitive to noise, hates any change and has a very disciplined daily routine. I can see clearly, that he suffers terribly with anxiety, this is something I can understand.

Can anyone recommend a book that can help me understand him more as he will not communicate with me, and I want to learn how I can reach him, my previous post explains more.

Many thanks x

  • Hello Amerantin, will check those books out, thank you so much.

He refuses to get help or diagnosed as says that the medical community does not understand.  This worries me alot, as can clearly see he needs the right type of support.  I have mentioned counselling to him.  He reads alot of psychology type books, including books on Einstein, Plato that kind of thing.

When he was a child, I found that I needed to be a 100% parent to him, if I faltered or had a bad day he would go downhill quickly.  His behaviour in comparison to others did stand out, I had to be really hands on and communicate with his teachers alot.  He hated me trying to get him to play with other children and he cannot cope with any visitors in our home.  He also cannot cope with birthdays or Christmas.  Its a relief for me to write all this out, thanks for reading and your book recommendations, I really appreciate it xx
