What are you doing for Christmas?

"It's the most horrible time of the year" I sing this every year. Lol. Christmas is the worst. A horrible nightmare that lasts too long and gets too much hype.

I saw in a shop today they're already selling Christmas sweets, calendars and I saw an advert on TV and it's not even been Halloween yet! But it begs the question...

What are you doing this Christmas?

Undoubtedly I'll have family over. The lights will be too bright. I'll be forced to socialise. And I'll have to go to the Christmas work party. December is a long old month. I hate it. Please someone shoot me with a sleeping dart and let me sleep through it.

  • I live in Brazil where, in most of the country at least, Christmas is celebrated right after the summer solstice. That just seems so wrong. I feel like there is no Christmas here, despite people putting up decorations and so forth.

  • ...ever the apologist = I didn't mean to  imply that you weren't normal for liking Christmas in my recent response to Ann other below.

I do find your way of thinking on this matter admirably positive.

    Happy Sunday

    Number.

  •  I have circa 16 pairs of identical socks, a further 8 pairs of different  identical socks and 6 different  pairs.  I am Number.

  • Yes you're very normal.. welcome to the group!

  • .....you are here mate.  We are the normal ones here (to make a change!)

  • I am doing absolutely nothing. I am not normal.

  • i already finished a tub of celebrations and around 4 tubs of heros lol
not to mention i just got one of them largest bars of cadbury chocolates, they used to be 1kg but now they seem to be only 850 whatever the measurement is below kg.

i also got chocolate yule logs already and have been having them as my after dinner cakes.
had a selection box first time since i was young... dissapointed with how small everything in it was, not sure if they was all that tiny when i was younger or whether i was just small myself and they felt normal size back then.

  • Indeed we do brother.

  • Thank you my numerical friend, you should be a prime number, maybe a lucky 7 or an unlucky 13. Stuck out tongue winking eye I think we sing from the same hymn sheet.

  • You're a good man Roy.  Defo my type of bloke.  Love to you and the Dutches.......and btw....I love it when you are in the "mode" you have found yourself in today.  It's great !

  • What's your favourite Chocolate barand sweets? I like Quality Street but am anorexic so won't have any this year.

  • No don't be sorry and if you feel it then post and enjoy. I don't respond to everyone because I'm really anxious but I do read all your comments and I've enjoyed reading each one, a lot resonates with me and for once in my life I don't feel alone.

That's a lovely idea of yours and your wife. I did that at a children's home with my mum as that was her work and it was both upsetting and lovely. The people worse off are some of the nicest people out there.

  • Sorry for posting so much today, my brain is in an accelerated mode, I’ve been chatting to my wife, what we would love to do is spend a Christmas at a homeless shelter, the Dutches is a District Nurse and would love to make sure people are medically okay. I’m happy cooking and working on the mechanics of the day. I know my anxiety would go ballistic but also know, once I listen to the people I would be okay. I’ve always been conscious that my life has been near to me joining the homeless. It’s very close to me how some young people become homeless because of abuse by adults.

  • The inane gift is just pointless, I don’t want a Lynx Africa set, ‘A’ I have eczema and my skin will actually bleed, ‘B’ the smell will make me feel sick and sneeze constantly.

My wife was really kind today and asked what I would like as a present for my looming birthday, she knows I don’t want a random item. My reply was parts for my Classic Mini project, she thought it was a good idea, “it’s something you actually want and will use.” She’s a keeper. Heart eyes

  • I go away for 3 weeks over Xmas and the new year as far away as I can, just me and my dogs a few books and a blanket

try and get a cabin or a cottage as far away from civilisation as I can

I have never understood Christmas, but as I got older I actually made me so anxious I kept having fits .

  • Texture, thickness, pattern or size?

Life is easier with all black socks but I do have some coloured ones. One of life's pleasures is when you pair up the socks and there's none left over.

    JACKPOT!

  • well my job would have me working 24 hours every day as its peak period for that type of job lol
so if its up to them id be doing nothing but work, thats why i hate Christmas.

but i like all the chocolates and treats for sure. they should do them all year round instead of getting rid of them and switching to basic bland stuff on shelves.

  • I'll be at work at the hospital. It's more less like an ordinary day even at Christmas, sometimes I hear Christmas music on the radio but in the mortuary it's just me and the deceased.Christmas doesn't happen here.

Outside of work I celebrate it - Christmas means life, joy, love and faith. It brings out the best in people, especially in children. I love seeing people carol sing. I love watching Christmas films with my wife and daughter. I love listening to my Christmas carols CD, sat by the fire on Christmas Eve.

It is heavily commercialized these days but I see past that and see the joy and happiness it brings. That to me, makes it the most wonderful time of the year.

  • I have never understood the concept nor why people go so mad over it? I respect that some may like it but why shove it down my throat at every opportunity?  I tend to go out on the bike and keep away from people. To me, the 25th of December is just like any other 25th. I saw Mince Pies on sale back in September!

    Bah Humbug!

  • I have 5.....who needs more than 5 ties?!
