3 Good Things (Redux)

Since the thread, which began May 2021, seems to have vanished, I wish to create a new one.

1. I paid for a condensed tumble dryer, which I reserved on Tuesday; for delivery, tomorrow. Also paid for a three-year warranty. (In cash)

2. I made a poem, entitled 'Storm in a teacup', about the arrival of Agnes. (SEYMOUR!)

3. Bought more Farm-Fresh milk today.

  • 3 things I learned today in my open learn AI course:

    1. The idea of artificial beings goes back to Greek mythology, with the God Hephaestos creating a man of bronze to be the guardian of Crete.

    2.  A ‘talking head’ automaton became popular in late medieval Europe, amidst rumours that the scientist Roger Bacon, and the German philosopher Albertus Magnus, owned such devices. These automata had specific capabilities more clearly associated with the heads of humans, e.g. they were used to simulate speech or could appear to return a person’s gaze.

    3. The word 'robot' derives from the Polish word robota, meaning ‘slave’

  • I learned the robot/slave one this week from... "The Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles". Grin
