Testing, testing one-two-three - THIS IS NOW MOTHBALLED.

If you are having your posts in this place being pulled for being "offensive"....but they are not.....the group conciousness seems to indicate that abiding by these four points might help you.

(1) Using more than 3 separate quotes from other people's posts in your own triggers the bots.  [GENERAL RULE OF THUMB]

(2) If you post on a thread, you can edit that post only twice....because on the third attempt to edit your own post.....you will trigger the bots. [GENERAL RULE OF THUMB]

(3) Don't do repetitive things + don't try to be too cute (ie use multiple symbols or characters in a post.......use the same words on multiple threads in quick succession etc)

(4) Don't just post a www. link in isolation without an explanation of why you are posting it.

UPDATE....obviously, my posts here will look like I'm have some sort of episode AND if I'm successful, many of my posts will get "pulled" for different reasons.  This is easier than I thought...and substantially more inexplicable that I had anticipated.  Look at me....I'm messing with the bots heads!  Love it.

UPDATE 2....Hooray, the humans are winning !  This thread was started a wee while ago....but the humans were told by the bots to take a look so it got pulled.  The humans have spoken.  Long live (and respect) the humans who kindly allow this place to exist - as it does.  Thank you.

UPDATE 3....A kindly white hat (probably a black hat really) has told me that this thread is (at best) a dumb idea, and (at worst) a really bad idea.  I believe them.  I have found it VERY easy to trigger the bots.  The software used to kill spam in this place is like toddler AI......you don't want to antagonise it....unless you know PRECISELY what you are doing...I do not !  The algorithm is ever evolving and changing.

I will continue to fight the bots and spam where I find it - the old skool approach - and leave the clever stuff to clever people.  Mic drop.....my Number's up !

I've experienced this before but a few days ago I was able to post a reply where I quoted 6 separate times. I was fully expecting my post to be gobbled by our resident spam eater but it wasn't Thinking

I've had this happen when attempting to edit a post for the first time. That's why so many of my posts have uncorrected typos in them. I daren't correct them without risking the wrath of the spam fighting bot.

That's good. I was wondering if it was wise to discuss this. We don't want to produce an instruction manual for the spammers to learn what not to do. What we do want is to prevent so many regular posters from being snared by the system.

When it happens on a weekend it is worse, as the mods are not able to deal with the issue straight away. I was prevented from posting for a couple of days a few weeks ago and it was incredibly frustrating. This weekend it is Debbie who is unable to post and she is missed Slight frown

Yep - aware of this.  I think it is possibly a number of characters / number of words / 24hr allowance type deal, rather than a strict - no more than x quotes in a post.  However, in order to help people who might be experiencing problems, the guideline of Max 3 quotes per post should ensure things don't do awry.

  • Indeed - you make good and important points.  I certainly will not intentionally do anything to undermine our defences nor our volunteer mods......I will also be careful not to "flood" their pile of work with time-consuming nonsense.

I do always need to be careful how invested and thorough I become with matters such as these.  I have been told by plenty of people that I can "tear the farce" out of matters like this, and/or "you're like a dog with a bone."

     I wonder, perhaps I'm autistic ?!
