What's the meaning behind your username?

I chose mine because I love Mr Men! I watched it as a kid and now watch it with my daughter.

I thought now I know I'm autistic I can use Little Miss Autism for all my online stuff now.

What's the story behind yours?

  • Oh my goodness! I love your name! That’s so creative. I grew up watching Mr Men.

    Mine is just my name.

  • Well in a Prince Trust course I did when I was 24, the class of my team programme unanimously used to call me ‘Dad’, because I was senior and nurturing in their eyes. Another member of the Team Programme (with autism and with which I am now best-friends) convinced me to join their server on Discord as I left, in order to stay in contact, so I had to consider a user.
On leaving the course I had temporarily-risen out of my depression as I result of my heightened-confidence, which in-turn had caused my family/household to resent me because they took my confidence as flippancy in the face of my unemployment, so I was made homeless.
I moved into the YMCA, and chose the user ‘FatherSparrow’, sparrow being in relation to my surname. But the server took to calling me ‘sparrow’, then ‘DeSparrow’ as I earned my chops, and finally I called myself ‘DeSpereaux’ for reasons that you will see in my profile message.
Ultimately I both grew into the name ‘DeSpereaux’ and aspire to the spirit of the Mouse Despereaux..

  • My name is Buddy and I'm also autistic. I'm also hoping to be a singer and star one day so thought Autistic Buddy would be a good name to use and a good username.

  • I love sparkly things as well! I think I might be part magpie lol.

  • Poor Elvis Costello he never gets the recognition he deserves Yum

  • I opted for mine because I'm drawn to things that sparkle when the light catches them... Glitter, metallic threads, etc. For me, it seemed like the most obvious choice of username.

  • So not Elvis Costello then?Wink

  • My first name. Got me a lot of attention at school, not always wanted attention but it's cool having a famous name. My mum was a big fan of this guy

So after having three girls she was delighted when I came along so she could use his name :P

  • My username "AutToFindOutMore" (derived from ought to find out more), references my interest in finding out more about the subject of autism which started when I thought that I might be on the spectrum and has continued since my diagnosis.

  • Wow, that sounds impressive Ice Swimmer!

  • Well I'm a bit of a diva and I'm dreamy so the two combined made a good username for me Grin

  • For the past 7 years (before "wild swimming became a thing"), I  have swum outside all through winter without a wetsuit, sometimes breaking ice. Swimming in water below 5C is considered as ice swimming.

  • I just changed mine from JGepp07 to Pegg. I did this because I introduced myself as Pegg and I decided I liked the look of it better! Blush

  • Mine is Aaron because I wanted it to seem kind of gentle. But of course my own perception of that would be individual to me.

  • Nice.  Excellent trivia.  I guess if I am to be held captive one day, I will be able to sound like a proper little entitled door handle by proclaiming "I am not A number, I AM Number." I guess this wouldn't make such a catchy tag line to a TV show.

  • I am reminded of Patrick Mcgoohan in "The Prisoner" (1960's TV). He was known by his captors as 'Number Six' and used to protest loudy...... " I AM NOT A NUMBER ! ".

    Ben

  • I love the Monkey Island games!

  • Interesting question....

I'm a gamer and have been for as long as I can remember. Many years ago when the internet was young (and so was I) I used to play on a MUD called Aber Phoenix (it was a text based adventure game) I played under several names there as I ran characters in various guilds. My main game character was Enchantica (a name I still use when I'm gaming) On that MUD she was my mage character. I also used to play as Marcasite who was a warrior and then there was Inula (which is a flower) I can't for the life of me remember what guild she was!  But I like her name. It's short and easy to spell!

  • I am Number.  I was asked by people in this place to "get a name," so I obtusely chose to call myself number.  I suspect there was some background pathological demand avoidance going on with the naming.........although I do also often feel more numb the older I get.  Go figure....am I a whole, imaginary, negative, tiny, infinitesimal, or random?!  Answers on a postcard - or via carrier pigeon - only.

  • "Luftmentsch" is Yiddish. It literally means "air man," but really means someone with their head in the air, lots of thoughts, but bad at practicalities.
