New Kitty

Lovely! How old is she? I thought you were getting a white kitten? I have been away from the forum for a few days as we just got a new cat too and she is a bit hyper. I thought cats were supposed to be autists, but this one has ADHD hyperactive type for sure! She is only a year old so still quite kittenish.

They do like tuna, but she will need proper cat food as it has the right balance of nutrients for cats. I'm glad to read she is settling in with you. It is usually advised to keep them inside for the first week or two, starting out just in one room if nervous and gradually getting used to things. The Cats' Protection website will have info about how to settle your new cat, that's where we got ours from. They have been quite diligent about making sure we know how to look after a cat even though this is our 4th.

Also don't give her milk as it gives them the runs! Unless it is lactose free. Dunno if goat milk is OK? But they don't need it, water is safer.

They are quite diligent about the general information, but not so diligent about giving you specific information when you take on older and settled cats... Food preferences and rituals & some basic but accurate temperament information  at a minimum, what they like and don't like, etc. I envision a 20 question "booking in" form to be honest... 

I think that depends on what the previous owner tells them. Some people give lots of info while others just dump the cat and run. I was told the people who used to have her said she preferred dry food, but that she did eat wet while at the shelter. If they aren't told much then their guess is only based on behaviour in a cage, so I knew mine was friendly, but not that she would be quite so hyper as she has been! But she has been more settled today, helped by the arrival of the Magic Red Dot of Chasing! The pheasant tail feather was good, but not long enough to do more than circles on the floor and leaping on the bed, now we have lots of running up and down the stairs, followed by lots of sleeping.
