  • ^ probs my bad, i tend to get sidetracked and go into all the topics i see in a text lol
kinda like chasing all the side quests in games instead of sticking to the main story quest.

... i kinda have a urge to side track myself more by agreeing religion itself can be boring, aside from eastern religions like hinduism and buddhism but thats probably because they are different to a western person like me so theres more to discover about them, plus they more match philosophy rather than western religion and philosophy is more interesting. aside from that the only real interesting part of religion is instead the history as history is more interesting, but rather not the history of religion but history in general, but you cant really go into history without religion being there to get in the way lol

  • I think if this were to be discussed further it's better to be it's own thread splitting hairs on religion so as not to accidentally hijack one about news of an anti-autist hatecrime.

Not that I would join it because really I just stepped back in for a slither of a moment to share the Comedian vid to try help bring the mood back up, religion as it's own conversation gets very understimmulating very quickly for me though, so I'll pass.

  • Not really. The Reformation birthed lots of smaller Protestant dominations around the same time. There were lots of contributing factors. A push to translate the Bible into new languages along with the printing press making it much more available, massive improvements in literacy, and of course the church‘s own very bad behaviour. When they started selling indulgences in a big way, The so-called licenses to sin, they lost a lot of moral credibility in peoples eyes.

what tended to happen is in cities and nations that supported the religious descent different churches sprang up which had similar but different ideas and tended to have different figureheads. But Martin Luther in Germany was by far and away the most famous figurehead. But in reality each nation had its own particular flavour of reformed Protestant church, either that or underground churches.

anglicanism is unusual in so far as the king not only permitted and even endorsed the Reformation, but actively promoted it and declared himself to be the head of the new church.

  • ^ i was trying to think on what the church of england actually is... because apparently protestantism isnt actually the church of england but rather a split off christian branch that emerged in germany instead lol
