....aka Battle Of The Borage
There have been rumblings for the past week or so but I thought now would be as good a time as any to get the show started. Today I sowed between 16 and 20 seeds.
I thought it might be nice for any members who want to join in to sow borage seeds and chat about it. We all know bees and pollinators need a helping hand and this is a lovely plant we can have in our gardens to help. The flowers are pretty star shaped blue, sometimes pink or purple. You can eat the flowers or put in ice cubes and you can use the leaves to make borage fertiliser for the garden.
I thought it might be a nice way to unite online friends by doing something remote in real life.
It does self seed so I take no responsibility if you end up with more next year! The more the merrier. Apologies if you have no outdoor space. Maybe do a bit of guerilla gardening if you can
This post was inspired by Jamie (who I cannot tag for some reason) and Number
So lets help our wildlife!
"No-one can do everything but everyone can do something".
I agree. Do you remember The Orb....same era / bit before? Fluffy clouds and all that jazz
Their first album was brilliant but the second one (with the guiness advert tune) was dire.
I'm actually suffering from bee envy at the moment.
They look like bee shaped teddy bears.
Off the top of my head (where does that expression come from, where else would your brain be?)
Don't answer that..
These are the bees I've so far identified in our garden,
Red-tailed, Buff-tailed, Bumble, Carder, Tree, Hairy Footed Flower, Leaf Cutting, Honey.
Could you send some of those miners in the post to me please
You're clever. I like you. I'll take your word for it unless someone else tells me otherwise I like my bee friend even more now.
Tawny Mining Bee?
I have never seen one before.
That's brilliant
God bless Jekka Macvicar!
I have more facts but they remain up my sleeve for now, to be unleashed at a moment's notice!
Oh man! How cool is that! Burning bush? You're a great person to know.......you have books with cool stuff in. I WILL be doing that with at least one of my soldiers - in the name of science!
That's cool, i wana try it :)
Under "other uses", my herb book says this about borage:
"As a novelty, burn the whole plant - the nitrate of potash will emit sparks and little explosive sounds like fireworks"
sorry, I meant feverfew NOT borage.
I'm ambidextrous.
That's a bit leftfield
Try chopping up borage leaves and adding them to macaroni cheese.
Excellent!
Purple, pink, and white.
Nice I think that's supposed to be really good for bees when they start emerging. The heather honey from Scotland is wonderful. What colour did you plant?
2 hours later...
Not borage but I did plant heather this year.
no clue.....ask an autistic person, rather than someone with an attention def........ Oh wow - a cat video on Youtube......must dash
He's going to be a happy chappy with all that borage!
