....aka Battle Of The Borage
There have been rumblings for the past week or so but I thought now would be as good a time as any to get the show started. Today I sowed between 16 and 20 seeds.
I thought it might be nice for any members who want to join in to sow borage seeds and chat about it. We all know bees and pollinators need a helping hand and this is a lovely plant we can have in our gardens to help. The flowers are pretty star shaped blue, sometimes pink or purple. You can eat the flowers or put in ice cubes and you can use the leaves to make borage fertiliser for the garden.
I thought it might be a nice way to unite online friends by doing something remote in real life.
It does self seed so I take no responsibility if you end up with more next year! The more the merrier. Apologies if you have no outdoor space. Maybe do a bit of guerilla gardening if you can
This post was inspired by Jamie (who I cannot tag for some reason) and Number
So lets help our wildlife!
"No-one can do everything but everyone can do something".
That looks like pak choi. I think someone is cheeeeating!
WEEDS!? take that back!
Number said:looking a bit gangly for my taste
I think it just needs a bigger pot which i'll be giving it tomorrow if the weather is ok
Number said: I presume there are numerous different varieties of Borage with oodles of Greek and Latin names?
Yes there are probably loads. Borago officinalis is the only other name i know
I dunno mate....looking a bit gangly for my taste....I'm hoping for an army of robust looking weeds myself. My first spouting leaves defo look different to yours? I presume there are numerous different varieties of Borage with oodles of Greek and Latin names?...if i can find the pack, I'll see what mine are.
I was tempted.....but it felt too ridiculous.....oh, no, wait....I filled the "ridiculous quota" for my post with the name Boris!?
This soldier is doing well:
What, no Borat?
Not ALL the continents. But more than one.
They are certainly out and about a bit more now!
I love it!! I can't believe you have crossed all the continents via borage themed monikers. Now you've got me going down a partial (bee) hole.
Borak the name can mean "To spark wonder in all who witness its light."
Is that also when we set fire to it!?
"borak" in Australian English : good natured ridicule or banter.
I'm having too much fun this morning. Thank you!!
Thank you for this post. Loving reading the progress, as well as the light hearted descriptions and the bee facts. I am not growing borage but a lot of other seeds that will hopefully attract the bees. Spent a lovely afternoon in the sun yesterday re potting seedlings. I saw my first bee of the season recently but will try to look more closely in future to see if I can identify the species.
Hello fellow Boragers.
I write with joyous news. The excitement is palpable. I have now officially birthed my borage. I have named them......from top left to bottom right, thus;
Bor, Bor Jnr, Bora, Bora Jnr, Borachio, Borachio Jnr, Borak, Borak Jnr, Borbala, Borbala Jnr, Borc, Borc Jnr, Bordan, Bordan Jnr, Borden, Borden Jnr, Bordin, Bordin Jnr, Bordon, Bordon Jnr, Boris, Boris Jnr, Boring, Boring Jnr, Boredom, Boredom Jnr.
Yes - for any of you who are not familiar with me, I am both autistic and also quite peculiar. I believe you can be either or both or neither or one and not the other.
I like the fact that the chosen names (I bet you can't see the elected theme of them) come from a selection of linguistic traditions........Norwegian, Korean, Hindi, Hungarian, Scandinavian, Germanic......and of course, English.
Being highly self aware, I am now also of the opinion that I have too much time on my hands this morning, so I am happily going to dive into some work activities......because if I don't, I feel that my research into the name Borak (The Legendary magical horse that bore Muhammad from Earth to the Seventh Heaven in Hindu tradition) will swallow my brain whole !
Happy Monday Boragers !
Organic! Very posh!
This is what mine look like
The under-gardener let me down
Me borages. It's just taken me 15 minutes to upload this and it's upside down but nobody will care or know any different.
Fluffy White Clouds reminds me of coming in after a night out when it was coming light outside. Happy times!
I've got one of their albums but I don't know which one it is
I'll find them and report.
I did the Orb live, twice. It was cool, but my mate had a moody one which kinda killed the vibe for me. But good times. Happy times. Have a good few CD's (and cassettes)....never seemed to have writing on...often a cardboard sleeve rather than traditional plastic cassette cases. So cool man......twisting my lemons man!
I've got the live double album on cassette, TBF I've not listened to it for a while...
I quite liked the Grid at the time as well, which no one else seemed to.
