Are there any classic car fans here?
I've always loved the classics. Both my dad and grandfather loved them so I think I must take after them. Growing up I remember them both having a lot of different classic cars, one of the highlights was my Grandad's MK2 Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia X, in stunning gold. He still had it when I was 8 but sold it on ebay when he gave up driving.
I've been a hobbiest classic car restorer for several years and am looking in to setting up my own workshop with my wife, who though doesn't really like cars she puts up with my constant chit chat about them! She's good like that!
Do you have a favourite classic?
I think one of my favourites has to be Vauxhall Royale coupe. I thought these were absolutely gorgeous cars inside and out.
What wasn't to like?
But I'm a fan of them all to be honest. I love the old Triumphs,Vauxhalls, Jaguars and BMWs. Currently restoring a Vauxhall Chevette and in the process of getting my grandfather's old Senator back on the road.
Still some ways to go with the Senator I fear...
Two beauties I've seen recently on my travels:
So does the radiator logo..
Nice clear sharp pic.
Saw today in Matlock. Google says it's an Austin.
You don't need to apologise for being in 'anorak mode' on this particular forum
Interesting facts.
Thank you for sharing.
ps. I love the word 'Frankensteined'.
I haven't come across it used as a verb before.
Sorry anorak mode now, the rear light units on an X1/ 9 are also used in the Lotus Esprit, the James Bond Esprit’s used them. The door handles on the Lotus are from a Morris Marina. Low production cars are normally Frankensteined from other cars.
Possibly Fiat X 1/9..
Only one pic and I'm not planning to return to that town in the near future.
What was that great 80s looking car on the Eurovision stage last night? Australian entry
It does look a bit down in the mouth
I saw these at a show in Battersea, I think it’s the one you mean.
Always thought those were a very unhappy looking car from the front...
Mine is not, and that is a weirdo and no mistake!
It looks mainly 70's soviet. The frame wheels bars and light etc, resemble the frame on, say a Ural M66 but the side of the engine looks like a Jawa 350, but there is some real oddness going on where I expect to see two large finned 2 stroke cylinders...
Got any more pics from a different angle?
Can you go get any? :c)
They also did a Rolls Royce and an Inspector Morse jag tiny copy on the same chassis...
I wish I could remember the names now...
Thanks Roy, it was a Nissan "Viewt"
The little "roller" they did was lovely!
A popular colour scheme since a certain young wizard had a flying one.
My latest discovery, in Matlock Derbyshire, I thought it was a Hillman, Google says Ford Anglia.
Oh wow thank you for the info Roy I didn't realise there was so many as I thought the VW Bug was unique. I'll have a look at some of the cars in your list.
Haha yep the Delorean was a beauty. If only the time machine version of the car was real haha
Some are newer cars.
Hi Shardovan, I've only this minute seen your response. I agree! I also found it cool that the engine was in the back of the Beetle. It's a real shame VW stopped making them. I wonder if any other vintage cars were made with the engine in the back?
Roy are you aware of any cars from 60s/70s that had an engine in the rear?
Roy thanks so much! I spotted your reply later than I should have but that’s really interesting.
Just popping in to say I saw an orange Thriumph Stag today, sorry I didn't get a photo as it was on the move though.
