Bad memory

My memory sucks. At school I had to read this book and retell bits but by the end of the class and my turn to read I couldn't remember any names from the book. My teacher said it was intentionally, it actually wasn't

But I've noticed it happens all the time. If I watch something I remember the plot but not the characters names. I wonder if this is autism related but all the reading I've done online doesn't say much about it in kids or adults with autism. It's a real problem for me and I'm worried if its like that now what about when I'm 20 like or 50. I'll probably forget to eat and drink by then

I dunt know what to do about it

  • Maybe you are not interested in names? You did remember the plot. I'm sure there are some things you remember very well. There are some memory tricks you can use to memorise names you need to know, but really what is the point of storing the names of characters from shows/books if you have no intention of watching/reading them again? How are you at remembering the names of actual people you know?

Forgetting to eat and drink will probably only happen if you also have poor interroception and don't know when you are hungry or thirsty, that can happen. Or in hyperfocus.

Some things I remember very well, like new vocab words, other things I really struggle with, like numbers. Don't worry too much, but if it bothers you, google memory techniques.
