Comfort item

Do you have a comfort item?

I know they come in like bears, blankets, jewellery and curious if you have something that brings you comfort.

I have a necklace that was my mums and a bracelet, also a blanket, but that makes me feel like a child.

Got a lot on today - 2 buses to my hospital appointment - and then I've got to find where I need to go and in my opinion hospital are so hard to navigate!

I have to admit I'm taking my blanket lol. Hopefully it'll make me feel easier.

Look forward to seeing if you have a comfort item :)

  • But sometimes you hide from their judging eyes in the airing cupboard. Apart from that... lovely.

  • Always know where your blanket is. (to misquote Douglas) That's a nice thing to have.

  • I hope today goes okay. Genuinely wishing you all the best.

My current comfort item is the oak ring I made for myself recently. The feel of it is wonderful, as are the grain patterns. I can wear it, so it feels inconspicuous too. I stim with it by twisting it on my finger (it’s incredibly smooth) or by rolling it on my head/face- as I do this, it rotates. Seems odd writing it down that way, but it is what I do and if it were to be understood anywhere, here would be the best place.

Please take care and take it one step at a time today.

  • I've got a pair of like metal chinese balls, about the size of a golf ball, and when you hold them in your palm and move, they play music, a bit like a music box. They're suppose to make you re;lax,

  • Take good care today Luna. Hospitals are indeed difficult to navigate, and combined with two bus journeys it sounds like a noisy, smelly, texturally, socially intense day. Hope you can coccoon late, if that's what you need.

I have a charm bracelet where all the pieces have different shapes, textures, and colours (even though I can't see those) and they all depict or represent things I care about. I also have a weighted blanket and an oodie (mix between a blanket and a hoodie) and I'm hoping to get some headphones that cancel enough noise. (If anyone has recommendations I'd appreciate hearing them!)

  • PLEASE take care of yourself today, Lu. x

Meanwhile, in less-anxious news: I have three fluffy toy dogs, one of which actually 'talks'(!) These were kindly bought for me by an elderly lady who lives abroad, a former nurse who 'keeps an eye on me' because of my difficulties. These lovely gifts provide real comfort and company for me. Slight smile

  • I have a weighted blanket that I love and my noise cancelling earphones. I don’t still understand what’s happening to me, I only realised I’m autistic a year ago, I’m 55, I don’t know how I coped in the world. I would have not understood people like me before. I hope your day isn’t too stressful. Take care.
