As a child we always had ‘ Mother’s Pride’ bread, a beef and onion crisp sandwich was lush, unfortunately we could only afford Stork margarine which was hideous. I can still remember parents trying to make me have dripping on toast, every house had a fridge with a mug in it with no handle, the mug would have about an inch of animal fat on top and meat juices in the rest of it. I couldn’t even look at the mug, I still feel bilious thinking about it. A heart attack in a mug.
