this has become a bit of a favourite- To the Unknown Man by Vangelis. I’ve been learning it on the piano too. I think of it as a stoic anthem. No words, but it feels like it’s saying ‘keep going, no matter what’
'Sink me if those weren't the best days of our lives,
The best days of our lives.
Oh, stone me and serve me cold if I wasn't told
I'd regret it all one day, and truly now I say:
My heart is like a town you moved away from
A town you moved away from. My heart...
In the end there's nothing left,
All the pictures gone, only shadows on the wall.
So sink me and drown me in the shallow end -
I betrayed a friend, now I'm harder to defend.
And In your rage
I didn't lie to you - the truth changed,
I didn't lie to you - the truth changed.'

Slowdive - Don't Know Why:
Roxy Music - Same Old Scene:
'Fear and panic in the air,
I want to be free
From desolation and despair'

You're welcome. I'd only heard of them because the song featured in The Matrix Reloaded...and that was arguably the only memorable part of the film.
Thank you for sharing that link. I had never previously heard of ES Posthumus. I think I will be having a listen to more of their music.
Fantastic talent. Their music is quite cinematic, in a similar way to that of ES Posthumus (though of course the styles are extremely different):
I discovered them a few years ago, as a result of seeing them perform with Andre Rieu (DVD), and thought they were brilliant.
The playing is excellent. The song is as thrilling and stirring as Carmen.
Are you familiar with Bond? - Not to be confused with James Bond
I tend to really like practically any popular song which features classical-type music (especially strings). There's something about classical music that moves me as much as any poignant lyrics.
If the song is the same version that I'm thinking of (i.e. no alternative lyrics), I'm struggling to understand why there is an age restriction. Sadly, I was unable to view it because YouTube required me to sign in to prove I was over the age of 18.
When the song was released, I don't think I paid much attention to the lyrics. I just knew that I liked the vocals and the music. At the time, it was one of those songs that seemed to stand out because it was so different from everything else that was in the popular music charts...the fusion of what could be described as classical music and club music.
I liked Robert Smith’s recent
I took my daughter to see the cure in December, she is finding her own way with music, I want to share them with her.
it was amazing, equally as good as previous viewing back in the 80’s
we witnessed and shred something very special.
I liked Robert Smith’s recent collaboration with Chvrches. The latter is one of the few modern bands I try to keep up with, as I like how their sound feels like they carried the torch of 1980s synth music forward while still letting it develop into something that feels of the now. Some beautiful lyrics and instrumentation.
Anything by the Cure, especially he early stuff, please try the albums, seventeen seconds, faith, then pornography. In the that order.
Strange to think I’m maybe the only one of five who’s retained that memory. Amazing what we each retain or lose over time, and why. Something about those specific olfactory and weather and holiday conditions made that one stick, permanently and vividly for me. And I’m getting the phantom fragrance again now. Thanks for that!
Ever get a sort of reverse Proustian rush when you see a song title or hear that song? Your first one there… without fail Fast Car brings back the amazing combined smell of recently planed wood and chips, salt and vinegar. Because in 1987 during a family holiday in Donegal, we (my parents and my siblings and me) stopped in to a just-refurbished cafe in Falcarragh on a very rainy day, and had chips while that song -then in the charts I think - played on the cafe’s radio. A happy little memory.
