What do you like about Christmas?

I relate to the part about the gifts. I love getting other people presents whether this is for birthday or St. Nicholas (a bigger thing in my family than Christmas, though sadly not this year) or just for no good reason at all... in fact I would probably just give gifts all the time but then i would end up bankrupt.  I'll be spending this Christmas alone though. So not sure what will happen with gifts ... but your post makes me think that I should get some friends and family some gifts even if I have to ship them or give to them later, as it brings everyone so much joy

hi even though I commented Luna. commenting again, I like getting presents any kind of Christmas lights upsets my eyes too and I also like the tree even though I'm Muslim half Christian I still love Christmas. don't know what I'm getting for Christmas this year but want to see it. yeah . I like getting presents and Christmas dinner( ofc it's halal for me) yeah. 

I like Silent Night. I remember I sang it in church with my school year just before Christmas when I was seven.

That all sounds lovely and I'm with you all the way for that perfect hush you get on Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve for me is such a quiet and relaxing time. I wish all year was like it x

The atmosphere, the quiet stillpoints especially . That Christmas Eve hush towards midnight (maybe after a return to a late night mass for old times sake - I’m agnostic these days, but it’s nice to go with my parents while they’re still around - not that I’m assuming I suddenly couldn’t die first!), with the fire on, the tree lights softly glowing in the dark, a present or two opened before bed. I’ve always preferred Christmas Eve to the ‘big day’ (fussier, understandably) - when everything’s just poised in that magical threshold, not yet started to be over. Know what I mean? It’s a moment that comes and goes too soon, so no point in clinging tightly to it, just hold it gently and appreciate its fragile transience. That uniquely special time.

That all sounds lovely. Decorating the tree is such a fun part. I used to do it with my birth mum, usually she'd be playing Christmas music as well.

I love the smell of the tree as well. And the tinsel how it sparkles.

I totally get where you're coming from with slow lights. Anything bright and it's an instant seizure for me *rolls eyes*

I have lots to look forward to. It need to remember to enjoy the moment too though. That is important, I’m learning.

If it's anything like my experience was, it just keeps getting better for years..

Just from my daughters look of wonderment at seven months old, I can only begin to imagine the joy expressed at 18 months. It must have been incredible. It’s funny how having her around has changed my outlook. This is typically a period I don’t look forward to, and yet here I am, actually enjoying it! Truly a transformation for me.

Reading your comment has transported me right back to my son's second Christmas when he was 18 months old. He had woken up after I had been busy making my living room look festive. His reaction when I carried him into the living is one that I will never forget... Pure wonderment in a way that completely melted my heart, as he looked around the room. 

Therefore, I can relate to the joy you feel as a result of your daughter's fascination with Christmas lights.
