anyone else find "talking to themselves" stops mental stagnation?

currently loving it, saying whatever i want to myself, talking utter crap

had to get out of this place twice today as was driving me insane, just stagnant and felt my personality just not there

but had a long walk, got back, and talking utter idiocy to myself. "sign of madness"? nope, a sign that most people arent worth talking to i think lol.

Parents
  • I have talked to myself since I was a small child. The way it’s been explained to me is that a lot of autistic people have very high functioning brains. Constant information coming in needs filtering, so we talk to ourselves to filter  what we actually need from background information.

The way I stop it at night is with audiobooks as they seem to blockout my thinking.

  • i do the same, audiobooks at night, fall asleep to them

it distracts my mind and i focus on it instead, just has to be at the "right" volume otherwise its too distracting.

daytime, its music, i find that music with a lot going on in it, various different sounds, and either no lyrics or lyrics in a language i dont understand help me best, and drowns out external noise, as well as the internal

even if music with an "aggressive"(most of what i listen to is) sound, calms me a lot
