Walking and rain

I have a child who has started refusing to walk on the ground when it's wet or when he can see that it's raining. When I tell him to begin walking,  he completely refuses, and does not want his shoes wet. However, he's absolutely fine to walk on the ground when it's wet when he has wellies on. I bought him leather shoes, so it's not that his shoes are letting in

Im just wondering if anyone has advice or strategies I can use to make him walk on the ground when he has his shoes on even if the grounds.wet Unfortunately, I'd allow him just to wear his wellies, but he can't wear them to school

  • Just explain to the school he would prefer to wear wellies. They will make an exception. Or should I say, they should!

He may change his mind. Or he may find a different pair of shoes or trainers might be preferable, so keep trying new ones but be mindful you don’t make it a ‘thing’ or he may well dig his heels in and become more demand avoidant over the subject.
