ASD assessment, Pending outcome = confusion

Hey there,

Thanks in advance for reading my ramble :)

SO ..After being told for years by my ND friends that I "scream Autism" My friend helped me get tested!

I was referred to a diagnostic centre by my GP and things moved VERY quickly!

After looking online it seems 3-5 years  is the standard waiting time from referral to diagnosis/non diagnosis. Mine has all happened  within 3 months! i'm in awe at the speed but I wasn't prepared for it to be this quick!!

I filled in the forms, questionnaires etc and was invited to a phone call to discuss my childhood etc - I was then invited to a video call assessment.

The assessment itself  made me feel very uneasy and honestly quite stupid at times - after the call ended I had a small breakdown on my bestie because I thought I'd messed everything up not being able to do some stuff and getting confused etc .... but y'know .. it is what it is lets just wait and see

Whilst waiting for my results I've got myself frantic about "what if i'm not autistic?"  due to the fact i've been researching my "symptoms" and if I'm not autistic I'd likely have a personality disorder (think sociopath ... D:) so now I'm panicking!

I JUST GOT AN EMAIL THAT MY FIRST FEEDBACK SESSION IS TOMORROW EVENING!

1. why are there two feedback sessions?

2. what happens if I'm not ASD?

3. What happens if I AM  ASD ?

Parents
  • 1. why are there two feedback sessions?

I'm guessing here but could it be one with the carer / parent and one without for those autistic adults who need care?

    2. what happens if I'm not ASD?

Nothing. If you need diagnosis for something else I think your GP will be your next port of call.

    3. What happens if I AM  ASD ?

You will get a written report of your diagnosis and it'll be noted on your medical files. You'll probably get a booklet about local services for autistic people 99% of which won't be useful or relevant because they're aimed at children or the severally intellectually disabled. It's unlikely you'll be referred to any medical care / diagnosis.

  • AH Thank you, I do have a carer so that makes sense!

EEK my Gp thought autism too so I'm not sure what the next steps would be if its not Grimacing

Thank you though, your answer has helped me figure out what might happen in all outcomes <3
