On Instagram there are some autistic advocates who have also shared concerns about Spectrum10K. The NAS has also stated that they will write to the researchers and Cambridge University about autistic people’s concerns. I wouldn’t trust any research by Simon Baron Cohen anyway because of his previous harmful theories such as ‘extreme male brain’.

Yes, I have already read the article. I commented on it, but my comment was not posted - effectively censoring a perfectly civil disagreement with the thesis of the article. If people feel the need to muzzle any criticism it makes me question their good faith.

I suggest maybe reading this if you have time. Just to give another perspective. :)

No, I am not horrified by the study. It seems like a logical step towards a better understanding of autism. It is not going to find a cure or any simple way of screening for autistic foetuses. Autism is already known to be very complex and multi-factorial. The genetic components of autism are too widely scattered in the genome and too widely scattered within the general population to be amenable to eradication. Added to which, a proportion of them are undoubtedly beneficial to society.
