Roughly what level of maths are we talking about here? I'm interested because I am a maths student at university but I have also tutored lower ability kids/teenagers a bit and my sister wrote her phd thesis on maths education psychology.
It's kind of vague, but the tip I have is not to be afraid of visualising concepts in a different way to other people. Take the time to find a way that makes sense to you (maybe different from how your teacher showed you). It is more important to see in your head WHY something works than to be super quick at applying some method you have memorised.
I have never been amazing at remembering formulae etc and I was the last person in my class to learn my times tables, but I enjoy coming up with my own ideas (and justifying them), and this is what's most important for maths at a higher level.

What year are you in ? Pure/Applied or both? I think the ultimate goal is to think in mathematics. Not just merely be able to do problems but to actually be able to think in the platonic world like you do in everyday life. Its the only real reality there is. This is all just a temporary illusion.
