applied mathematics is your friend. Most maths can be related to physical real world problems. Most of these problems can be visualised in some way. Need to learn vectors? Navigation on a map. Calculus? The acceleration of cars etc. You want to study algebra? Look into geometry. Addition as motion on the number line, multiplication gives areas and volumes. Finding square roots is literally a problem of intersecting a line and parabola.
i loved it in school, wish i had tried harder in school at maths it just wasn't a practical subject at the time. Maths isnt sold very well to young people at GCSE and A level. it is very useful in programming/computing. Can u create a time machine please ?
I'm in 3rd year, mainly pure maths. My favourite areas are algebraic number theory, set theory and topology. Are you also a maths person? Yeah I get what you mean about thinking in maths. I've heard people complain about pure maths being too abstract, but tbh abstract concepts make more sense than the real world sometimes, because things are more clearly defined.

What year are you in ? Pure/Applied or both? I think the ultimate goal is to think in mathematics. Not just merely be able to do problems but to actually be able to think in the platonic world like you do in everyday life. Its the only real reality there is. This is all just a temporary illusion.
Roughly what level of maths are we talking about here? I'm interested because I am a maths student at university but I have also tutored lower ability kids/teenagers a bit and my sister wrote her phd thesis on maths education psychology.
It's kind of vague, but the tip I have is not to be afraid of visualising concepts in a different way to other people. Take the time to find a way that makes sense to you (maybe different from how your teacher showed you). It is more important to see in your head WHY something works than to be super quick at applying some method you have memorised.
I have never been amazing at remembering formulae etc and I was the last person in my class to learn my times tables, but I enjoy coming up with my own ideas (and justifying them), and this is what's most important for maths at a higher level.

There is a website called Brilliant (https://brilliant.org) which is very visual in teaching mathematics. Unfortunately, it is not a free service, but it does look worth the money. It depends what level of mathematics you are interested in, of course, but there is a YouTube channel called MathAntics which I really like.
the best way I have found (I have an a* in GCSE Maths and am currently on track to receive the same at a level) is finding someone even remotely to tutor you or anyone else and explain everything step by step. I'm not promising anything but Im sure that there are many people out there willing to do it for free or next to nothing as I know it is part of my syllabus to tutor someone and need so many hours to qualify for a qualification act
