Isolation

It's now Wednesday morning.

The last time I went outside was on Saturday evening.

I've also avoided listening to any news for over four days because it's so depressing.

I haven't spoken to anyone since Saturday.

I have plenty of food stocked up in the flat.

The question is how long can I stay isolated from the outside world and how unhealthy is it.

  • I'm glad you got out and that it seems to have gone well.

  • I finally went out yesterday to do my shopping.  It was a mild dry day, good for walking.

    • I stocked up on fresh food
    • paid a few bills at the post office.  One unexpected problem was that my local post office was closed, a notice on it said it would reopen on the 11th February.  So I walked to the next shopping area. That PO had a long long queue outside.
    • I also got several texts from my sister, her health is also not good.

I'm happy that I did most things yesterday because it's been raining heavily all night and now the forecast is for sleet and cold.

  • Yeah, the news is all out doing each other with speculation. It's not informing people wisely. I do my best to avoid getting caught up in it as it distracts me from more important things, and disturbs my serenity, but i do get caught reading it.

  • each person is different ----- one week and then your mental health starts to shift to the negative if u're not actively doing something to occupy your mind.  If you're happy and do not have ongoing illnesses,,,, u can easily do months/years.

  • I am going out today.  The snow has mostly melted, a few weeks ago I had a bad fall on slippery ice.

I need to buy fresh milk and empty my rubbish in the communal rubbish bins.

My main reason for avoiding the online news is that most of it is speculation and contributory.  And it does increase my stress levels.

  • You're immune system needs exercise, ideasly a daily one hour walk. It also needs some contact with other humans and a bit of lightheartedness to generate oxytocin. And for Covid sunlight, or Vit D. So I would advocate getting out to stay healthy. It's pretty difficult to catch Covid out of doors, even passing close to people, it's about avoiding standing near someone and having their breath close to yours for an extended period. Not reading the papers is good as stress suppresses the immune system. You need to stay healthy to combat all the other health problems that can come our way.
