Hello, like others on here I have a late diagnosis of high functioning autism. I was masking the behaviours of my older brother throughout my childhood. I played football even though I wasn't very chatty. I graduated with a maths degree from University.
Now I work and have a family. My doctor has been reluctant to give me an autism test as I've led a fairly normal life. So I went private and yes it came back as I was on the spectrum. Do you think it is worth me telling the doctors, or will it just be more hassle? Thanks for your opinions.
u need to check that out with the uni/school training you
With a diagnosis you can get non-medical help (e.g., ASD Tutor support) during your higher education.
And my next question is. Do you think with a diagnosis I would get extra help when training to be a primary teacher?
lol
I still dislike most of them - as I’m overweight they use weight loss as the answer to everything. If I went in with a severed arm they’d tell me I need to lose weight rather than stitching it back on!
my GPs where very good about me wanting a diagnosis.
GPs vary greatly
Fortunately mine knows to leave me alone - I just email him an update periodically so I don’t have to see him!
Thanks, yes I will tell them. But don't get me started on the NHS or doctors in general. They're not on my Christmas card list!
yes actually as it feedback that they missed this and didn't listen to you !
Welcome It’s worth telling the doctor in my opinion - they may or may not accept it as some NHS doctors (assuming you are in the UK) don’t accept the work of private practitioners - but it’s useful for them to have as much information on you as possible.
