Noisy neighbour up talking ALL night, keeping me awake.

My neighbour, the woman upstairs, kept talking to a man (her boyfriend?) all night. I could hear his voice more than hers, and it was loud. They were arguing from 6pm until 5am in the morning. Some of it sounded quite disturbing. I get stressed when I hear arguments because I feel the conflict. I feel angry. She might be nocturnal but I need my sleep, and due to my anxiety, I need it even more. Without sleep, my anxiety goes through the roof. First there were noisy students outside my flat (I live near a Uni), then, after they disappeared at 1am, all I could hear was the arguing. I have heard this man before, and initially thought the noise was coming from outside the flat, right outside my window. But it actually comes from upstairs. I am extra sensitive to background noise when I am trying to sleep (I can't block it out), and I just feel b***** angry and upset.

  • Yep, many people are very inconsiderate. I have been trying to be very quiet in my new flat, sticking by the tenancy agreement to the letter. I don't play music after 11pm, and when I do, I play it very softly. I don't have visitors after 8pm at the very latest. I don't slam doors, but shut them very softly. I would never make noise in the middle of the night!

I spoke to my support worker about this today, and she told me that, if it continues or becomes a regular theme, she will help me write a polite note telling the neighbour that her boyfriend's talking keeps me awake. Hopefully this won't happen again, and usually the neighbours are quiet. However, to miss a whole night is pretty horrible, and it has knock on effects during the day. For example, I had to cancel a work meeting because I kept on feeling like crying at the slightest thing, and felt more anxious than usual.
