Getting overwhelmed by tasks - Advice needed

Hello everyone!

This Semester I am doing my bachelors degree in design.
I am working on a Poster that shows the influence of digital media on children.
At the moment I struggle a lot with getting overwhelmed by all the things I need to do. I just don’t know where to start though I know what to do and I already broke this big thing down into smaller steps.

I wanted to ask you, what you are doing if you deal with similar problems. What can someone do to not get overwhelmed so easily?
How can someone stay calm?
My Brain always tends to run down every step I need to do and tries to do all at once. I guess because of the fear of forgetting something.
In addition it keeps making things like buying groceries or just basic human tasks a lot more draining. It feels like I am barely functioning and I am embarrassed about that...

(I also have some anxiety around being not good enough, if you have tips for that also that would be much appreciated!)

Thank you for reading and for your help!

  • Some things that help me:

    - doing one minute of calm, slow breathing. Breath in slow, hold the breath for afew secs, breath out slow and hold the empty breath for a few secs. It does me miracles.

    - Decide the night before what the 3 first things to do the next day are

    - start at the same time ever day

    - do the most important thing first, always.

I got a lot out of the school 'how to revise' books. Then used some books like Getting Things Done, that suggest systems to help you organise.

And just remembering will power can help you overcome it, there's no magic solution but the solution is in you. And to be gentle with yoyrself when you can't hack it.

  • I use "getting thinks done" as well and it works for me for both work and private life - I may speculate the the author may be on the spectrum if you look in detail at him?

But that aside the ability to step outside of your work and take a dispassionate look at what (and esp how) you are doing things is a great ability to have. It can be difficult to do, but with practice it can be very useful. I find it best to combine with my passions for hiking and with physical exercise in with a very pleasant place esp with wide expansive views. In that way I find things that have been causing me anxiety can be put into a "proper perspective" and have the odd flash of inspiration as well. But I will also say do not dwell on "to much" examination as this can not help.

Although not the best time of year physically stepping outside and away I do not think will hurt at all?

Good luck with the study and remember you are not alone with anxiety.
