Temple Grandin

For anyone who has Sky, there looks to be an interesting film on Sunday at 9pm.

"Claire Danes gives an Golden Globe-winning performance as the autistic woman who broke down barriers to become a celebrated academic. Inspirational biopic with Julia Ormond."

  • I did see the film, and think it's a must see, for anyone wishing to have more of an understanding of the sensory issues that has an impact on lives.  Some of the staff team have also seen it and learnt some thing from it. My husband could  see me crying through a glass door, but could only hear loud mooing.  He was very confused.

  • For me it was an ensight! Althou 'Hollywood' in parts, the sensory effects she felt, the way she saw things, was an eye opener for me.

For years I have been trying to work out, wondering what my Sons see and feel, this was as close as I have yet come, to feeling what they do in their little bubbles. The canteen part especially hit home for me, all that noise and confussion she felt, I saw my eldest son in her eyes and it melted me to tears!

Seeing how she was at Four, her challanges to grow, develop and to be excepted into Society , then seeing what she achieved and her life blossom to where she is today, was a huge boost for me.

  • Good film, if a bit Holywood. Well worth watching and any you tube of Temple talking on Autsim. Different not less! A quote from Temple's mother, that I might tattoo on my arm.

  • I have read her book Thinking in Pictures, it is so inspirational.  Don't have sky so will just have to wait for the dvd.  She is a great person for making you hopeful for your child.  She has helped me see, through her books, that autism is not a disease but something wonderful that with the right kind of support my boy can achieve a normal and even special life.  I love Temple Grandin.

  • Yes I have seen it and have mixed feelings about it.

I watched it and then needed to watch 'Benny and Joon' as an antidote . .?

  • I'd really recommend it, it's a great film. Be interesting to know what other people think of it.

For me one of the great biopics of recent years - regardless of my professional interest in the subject.
