I love autumn and I feel it passes so many people by as they move from "summer holiday" mode to "thinking about Christmas mode".
There's this wonderful period right now, with the changes of the seasons. The low, late, subtle golden afternoon light lingers on a fine day. The firey colours of the leaves ignite something inside me I can't quite describe. The orange, red, yellow, brown tones. That sweet smell of the leaves on the ground. The damp smokiness in the evening air...
That cool, crisp, chill which gets you by surprise...I always look forward to that time when it's finally appropriate to wear jumpers and scarves....(I'm no good in shorts and t shirt. The slightest drop in temperature and I'm putting a jumper on. Quite often it's still too mild for a jumper and I end up getting too hot.)
Getting the heating on at home and a nice pair of socks....eating comforting food...
I love all seasons, but I think autumn, perhaps, is the best. It's the calm, in between the time of the manic build up to Christmas from summer holiday hype. I know a lot of this is to do with consumerism as we are ever propelled toward the next calendar event....but it's nice to pause, reflect and take stock. It might seem we are on an endless runaway train but we aren't.
What do you think is the best time of year?
I agree with that autumn is the best.
I find that understanding the seasons bring a sense of clarity and calm to myself.
People get depressed in the autumn / winter months.
But if they knew how greatly these months effect our natural world in the most beautiful and positive way.
The would find the clouds, rain and snow are no reason to get upset.
I do like routine so perhaps I Could be bias.
I love Spring.
It's a welcome change from the cold and greyness of winter and the months of being stuck in the house.
I love seeing the new life, the bluebells in the woods, the rabbits in the fields, the flowers and leaves bursting out.
I love visiting Bekonscot model village to see all the bright colours of their flowers and having a coffee amongst all the models and train layouts.
I dreamed of visiting Switzerland to do the Glacier Express during a spring to see all the mountain flowers all around the tracks and taking the Funicular railway among the waterfalls. I've watched lots of Youtubes but I just really wanted to see it for real before I die.
Maybe it's Yorkshire.. Plenty in Leeds too!
thank heavens ,,,,, York has loads
We never went away!
oh my the hippies are back,,,,, hooray
Hi,
I feel exactly the same way, I love this time of year! Autumn has always been my favourite season since I was a child. I love the colours and the crisp chill on a morning. I love the fact you can wear your sunnies with a wooly hat! The crowds of people are dispersing from the summer and the world just feels a bit more peaceful and calm. Mother Nature is at her most beautiful this time of year
Yeah I love all the different colours of leaf and the chilled air.
I'd also like to add, that I think for colour, this has been one of the BEST autumn's I have ever experienced.
Notifications went to my spam box! But yes I am hibernating anyway :-)
Yes it's that MAGIC time of year and I would love to go foraging for fungi. Actually I went a few times by myself but wasn't sure what I was picking. Think I need a guide to show me what I am after!
Yes Desmond79, spring is a lovely time of year and the renewal and regeneration of life.
You sound like a big child, aidie :-) that's a good thing! I don't like Halloween - it's too commercial. I don't mind bonfire night (I like a good bonfire) it's just all the domestic fireworks I am not keen on. Mind you, they go off around here at other times of the year anyway. I think it's unfair on all the wild animals.
Oh, Simon! It's still too early for Christmas haha. I used to feel quite nostalgic at Christmas and loved how the feeling used to take me back to being a child. These days, I think the weather is too mild for me to feel Christmassy. We need that biting chill in the air which we haven't had for past few years.
Hello I love this time of year so much it’s definitely my favourite as soon as it gets to September I go into Christmas mode still a big kid I suppose only 8 weeks 3 days to go until Christmas
yes i used do that i love a giood puff ball
And it's also that Magic time of year if you're into local foraging for fungi! :D
listen to Holst Planets "spring" its very hopeful
The punchline to that is that a Job Delivering Amazon goods awaits.
My favourite season is Spring; the birth of new life.
me thinks out_of_step has gone into hibernation
I'd just like the weather to be more stable, & predictable. That's going to prevent me from choosing a favourite time of year. Perhaps the first 3 weeks of September, or the first 3 weeks of June? And then "pause it"!
what will I do this year ????
