I feel let down by my country

I feel let down by the direction Northern Ireland has taken.

They bend over backwards to get people on benefits. Yet, if you're looking work, you're treated as an outcast.

However, on a positive note, it's darkest before dawn. My brother and I plan to have our home and land sold next Spring. Then, I can get a home of my own. But all the bureaucratic wreckage left behind by our late Grandmother's fear of the Taxman has delayed the process so much, it's not even funny.

As they said on 'Four Christmases,' "You can't spell families without lies!"

  • When you get your finances sorted will you be able to live ok?

My cunning plan was to finish the house we're in now and then we were going to retire to the country and run a rural business - I'm a nerd so I was going to do eco training courses - low impact building techniques, solar power, water harvesting etc.      All you need is a small bit of land as all the materials are really cheap and reusable (cob, recycled bricks, wood etc.).       If you have enough space, your punters can glamp on the premises so you get paid for accommodation and the course content - double-bubble!  Smiley    If you own the piece of land, your running costs would be minimal.

I could also make bespoke garden furniture or tree-houses.      All low-cost, high margin, low volume products - and ideal winter business..

  • Being Green is a major issue for me.

I tried to start my own business myself, with the 'Go For It' programme in Northern Ireland, but threw myself in the deep end without a paddle. Let's just say, I wouldn't do well on 'Dragon's Den.' ;)

  • Good luck with it all.     Is there any kind of business you can run in rural location?    Eco-training maybe?    Teaching people how to be more green?    I'd look at taking as many benefits & grants as possible until you can make a workable business that fits with your needs.
