Any Doctor Who fans?

It's my favorite TV show, and my screen name actually comes from a Time Lord character that I created and write short stories with. I thought it would be pretty cool to strike up a conversation about the series. Who's your favorite Doctor? Who's your favorite companion? Do you have a favorite episode? A favorite villain?

I like William Hartnell from the original run and David Tennant from the current run. Amy Pond is my favorite companion (and I'll admit that her red hair contributes greatly to that). My favorite episode and villain are tied together, because I like "Blink" and the weeping angels.

Any other fans feel free to jump in and make any other comments you might have about the program.

  • Yes such an awesome episode and The Doctor Dances Stuck out tongue The stories were really well written at that point.

  • I liked Captain Jack in his first appearance - The Empty Child - Are you my mummy?????    Brilliantly creepy story.  Smiley

  • I loved Captain Jack, such a great companion! He was recently briefly in a 13th Doctor episode which was lovely to see. I think we can expect to see him back again soon hopefully.

Missy was amazing! What a fab character! I don't think much of the new Master currently.

  • Yeah it was a really good one. The End of Time had nearly all the 10th Doctors companions in it as well.

  • Favourite Doctor - Matt Smith.

some of the companions I have found annoying - and most of the ones since Christopher Ecclestone have  seemed to become infatuated with the doctor, which became very cliched. Donna seemed to be very independent at first but then got drawn in, as did Clara.

Not sure if they are truly companions, but my favourite characters were Captain Jack and River Song. Both such strong, independent, daring characters. It may sound like I'm contradicting myself here as River became the doctor's wife, however although she fell in love with him, she never appeared infatuated or in his thrall - if anything it seemed more the other way round, with her retaining the upper hand.

Oh, and best ever villain -Missy! Just loved her.

  • If I'm not mistaken, that story literally had every tenth Doctor companion in it. That's a sure sign they were going for something big.

  • I love The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. Poor Donna :( I love the stories though. Cool seeing Sarah Jane and Jack in it as well. My fave scene is when they tow the Earth back home again. The episodes aren't like that anymore sadly.

  • I just watched The Stolen Earth/ Journey's End again last night. I'd forgotten just how good that story was. Poor Donna got a heartbreaking end and an amazing sendoff all at the same time. The seemingly least capable character saves the universe? Great isn't it?

  • Most of the writing was very poor back then - they didn't have the concept of capable females so they always screamed and needed to be rescued - I found this tedious.       I wasn't a fan of Leela - she was incapable of progressing - the writing kept her as an ignorant cave-woman (and wearing a little as possible for the dads audience  Smiley  ) - but Mary Tamm as Romana was interesting - a cerebral challenge for the Dr. - a bit more grown-up.

  • I'd say I'm neutral toward Smith. Not my favorite, but I didn't dislike him either. Though. I don't think there's been a Doctor I didn't like. AS for Rose, I liked her at first, then it went a bit downhill for me, but they ended the character well, so I'd say there was some redemption.

So, with the comment about the "screamer" companions, would I be correct in guessing that Leela is much more up your alley for an original run companion than Sarah Jane?

  • Oh what episode was that? I don't think I've seen it before where you see a secondary room in the Tardis.

That's awesome! Did you enjoy the novelization? I loved the episode. So good. The Greatest Show In The Galaxy was a great one too, one of my favourites.

  • I really liked Matt Smith, though it did take me a while to get into his Doctor. I loved David Tennant but wasn't a fan of Billie Piper to be honest.

I also really liked Blink and The Girl in the Fireplace. Oh and the Atmos episodes from Season 4 were amazing as well I thought.

  • I used to be a Dr Who fan - right up until Matt Smith who I found to be just too irritating - and it's gone off a cliff since - can't watch it.        I lived through the hippy-trippy 70s episodes of Tom Baker and  Jon Pertwee but Tennant / Piper was by far my favourite pairing - a proper Dr with a highly capable assistant - not a 70s 'screamer'.

My favourite episodes are Blink and Girl in the Fireplace - both brilliantly written and played.

  • Inside, I'm going to go with the 13th Doctor's Tardis, but I'm going to give a special mention to the secondary control room they introduced with the fourth Doctor, simply because I think they did a great job on it based on what was available to them at the time. Exterior, I'll go with the first Doctor's, though that may be simple sentimentality since it's the first view we ever got of the TARDIS.

Since you mentioned The Happiness Control, I'll just mention that I have the novelization of that serial.

  • I absolutely love Doctor Who! I watch episodes new and old with my dad. He's a huge fan as well.

My favourite Doctor is Sylvester McCoy because of his whackiness and eccentric sometimes dark personality, and the umbrella! Loved him and Ace. But I did grow up with Matt Smith and David Tennant so they are both in my top five, as is Capaldi and the 13th is growing on me as well.

Favourite episode is Happiness Patrol. I found that to be such a feel good episode. Closely followed by The Eleventh Hour.

Favourite companion is Ace closely followed by Amy Pond.

And my favourite villain is probably The Master, and I liked them all as they were all interesting and utterly insane.

One question I'll ask if that's okay. What's your favourite Tardis design, inside and outside? I personally really liked Matt Smiths first and last design. But David Tennant's was really cool as well.
