Badge notification incorrect?

Anyone know how to fix this?

It's been like it a few weeks now; badge notification but nothing there when I look. In other words, the badge number = 1 + the number of actual notifications.

    my notifications never work - I can either activate them and get notifications about threads i have never looked at, or turn them off completely. I can't get what I want, which is notifications of replies to threads I have participated in.
