GPS Trackers for kids

I'm going to be going on a few trips/holidays with my children and my two sons suffer from autism. Is there anywhere I could buy a gps tracker(s) to fit to my sons incase I lose sight of them so I can locate them immediatly? Or anything else similar to a gps tracker?

  • I would personally make sure your child is aware that you are tracking them if that is possible; it might feel like an invasion of privacy.

i would recommend Trackimo device. It's a 3G GPS device that's particularly good for children with special needs I have used the device for my daughter for 5months already and I love it.

  • Recently my 7yr old son went missing for an hour and a half after finding the front door key & letting himself out whilst I slept. Thankfully whilst we were all out searching for him, he returned minus a shoe & without his scooter. Turns out he had been playing in the muddy stream in the fields on the other side of our estate. As you can imagine I was hysterical with all sorts of thoughts going through my mind. I now want an ID Band and GPS tracker for him but after searching online I found a lot of sites were american and it was very over whelming. I would appreciate any suggestions as to where I can get these items ASAP.

    Thanks

  • Check with the Autism Parents Group in your area. The one in my former area acted for a supplier and sold them to members, and had them on display at meetings.

Also there may be a MenCap centre local to you that can acquire them.

  • Hi.

I saw a tweet about this service yesterday and thought it might help.

Im not sure how I feel abour using a gps tracker with my son but I guess it's better than the stress my husband and I are currently experiencing. I've looked up the device and it looks good and I'd be able to see my son from my phone which I like.

    Here's the site www.pocketfindergps.com

I hope this helps. I'll let you know how we get on with it as we're hiring one for half term.

  • I just uploaded this free (for up to 3 devices) GPS tracker on my daughter's laptop she brings to school:

After a quick glance through customer ratings and reviews on Amazon.co.uk, there seems to be only one wrist watch GPS tracker with a tamper-proof lock of reasonable quality available in the UK:

  • I just did a search on the same.

My daughter is 17, moderate to high-functioning and could probably be considered a "youth at risk". She has taken to wandering at night without letting me know. I have started to padlock the front gate at night.

I need something that is watch-like with a tamper-proof lock, unfortunately. I do realise this would be only partially effective and has to work together with other interventions. I'm hoping it will act as a deterrent. A panic button on the device would hardly be helpful if something horrific is happening. I wouldn't be able to reach her in time.

Most of the GPS trackers I have seen so far are made for use in the USA with 110v chargers. Singapore (and the UK) is 220-240v. I'm not sure if a transformer to convert voltage would help.
