Am I a snob?

First a confession, I am a shopaholic.  I have to visit shops every day.

Yesterday, I visited three budget shops.

  1. Aldi, I found the people there to be crude, vulgar, common people with no manners.
  2. Fulton's, the shoppers and their clothes smell, don't these people bathe ? Or do laundry?
  3. Poundstrecher, the faint smell of old vomit made me feel sick.

I prefer Waitrose and M & S.

  • Just woke up.  Let me elaborate.

Although  I live in the city,  the local centre has a village atmosphere and is self contained.  And I can shop there by travelling on foot.  NO bus fares.  So shopping in Waitrose is economical when it is very near.

    Yesterday's experience!

    I was shopping for food.

    Waitrose was fine, pleasent experience.

Then onto Aldi, overcrowded, too loud, also the mechanised announcements from the tills are annoying, closing till 5, opening till 1. Many years ago I came across the derogatory term chavs.  And this describes the staff & customers of that place.

Then onto Fultons, they have cheap food, they buy food from other places which is close to it's use by date.  It's possible to pick up some good bargains here.  And the stock changes all the time. Unlike conventional supermarkets which have predictable products.  The staff are ok, all very friendly and relaxed.  But the customers smell.

Then onto Poundstretchers, for the last two weeks I have smelled stale vomit in that store when coming in from the fresh outside air. Buying food is difficult when you feel sick.  It's obvious that they haven't cleared it up properly with strong disinfectant. I don't like the staff.

My favourite store here was a small Asda, but it closed down a month ago.  At Asda, I enjoyed using the self service tills. Putting in small change.  I was using up my 1p and 2p collection.  Paying over a £1 in 1p & 2p at a time.
