  • The train museum in York is worth a trip out - lots to look at and you can go into a maintenance pit to see the underneath and gubbins of a steam train. There's a side museum that is stuffed full of memorabilia and models too. It's right next to York train station.

I live near to the main Euston line so there's always good stuff going by if you follow the timetables. Like the Flying Scotsman & Mallard.

  • thank you for replying.  i would need something daily local to be honest but your suggestion does sound great!  the main euston line - is that also in york or do you mean euston st in london?  sorry if my qn is silly… 0)

  • The Euston line is out of London and goes through Milton Keynes, Birmingham and on to Scotland - the West line.

St Pancras goes from London to Nottingham and York - the East line..

I don't know anything specific about your area but there's lots of underground stations - I'm nerdy enough to have asked for a ride in the cab of an underground train (just contact the company and ask - they are normally very accommodating).

As I'm an old fart, I got to drive it.
