toilet training

hi i have a 4 year old with ASD and am trying to toilet train him but am havin no luck!he is happy to sit on the toilet but he wont do any thing.he is starting reception in sept and they would prefer him out of nappies!!does any one have any tips or advice please?xx

  • I definitely think the trick is to just go for it over a couple of days. Having toilet trained 3 children, I really don't think it works to put pants on for a few hours then revert to pull ups a few hours later. You might need a big bottle of disinfectant and a pack of cloths though!! 

    My son is lovely. He is going to a specialist school in Sept as I didn't think any of the mainstreamschools in my area were experienced enough to look after him. He has decent speech although only enough to get his needs met. Can't answer questions or have a conversation. Enjoys being round other children although he just copies what they're doing, he doesn't join in. Has no real behavioural issues though and is just lovely to be around! How does your son get on?
