Making political voting more accessible for people with Autism

Hi, we are a group of three girls in our third year of university. We have been given a brief set by RSA to design a solution that harnesses digital tools to increase the quantity and quality of citizens’ participation in democratic processes.

We have decided to focus on making voting more accessible for people with Autism. We intend to get as much feedback on our ideas as possible, to make sure it is appropriate and whether it would work for an individual with Autism.

Any feedback to our questions/ideas would be much appreciated.

We are known as Votrum which is the combination of the words Vote and Spectrum.

Our main questions for right now are:

- What difficulties do you find with voting? - what challenges do you face/someone you know who has Autism faces?

- would an app. you could download on your phone to vote, be an appropriate solution to making voting more accessible?

- would a leaflet/brochure explaining what each political party intends to do to specifically help people with Autism be helpful?

- are there any ways you could suggest making the voting experience less intimidating for people with Autism?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated,

Thank you for your help, Holly, Tabitha and Sonia (the Votrum team)
