What interests you?

Hello,

I'm new here and thought I'd try to get to know people by finding out more about you individually, if that's okay?

So I'm really into animal behaviour. Having previously been a vet nurse it always fascinated me & was obviously a big part of my job so that was a bonus. As a result I have pets... currently 2 house rabbits and a lovely gerbil.
I'm also into motorbikes... having grown up around them I just love to be around them & riding them.

So what interests you?

  • I have my artistic path and trying to take it up to a more professional notch. I work in abstract mixed media.

As a kid I was fascinated by volcanoes and last year got to holiday with my partner at Catania and Randazzo in Sicily, on the foothills of Etna. I also used to love science fiction and still do, though it has to be the right kind of SF. Recently I tracked down an old favourite of mine, Invader on my Back, by Phillip E High. No, not the great Mr *** himself, though I did eventually get introduced to him too.

All things gothic has been Pashto of mine too, I used to review a lot of international goth bands as well as books for a semi-professionali zone in exchange for a generous amount of merchandise. I review books now for Goodreads, Netgalley now, again I get sent things. I do buy the occasional thing too, recently buying things on the Gnostics.

Films is a newer interest, ones with lots of atmosphere and mystery. The 1989 version of The Woman in Black shows what can be done with shooting and where less is more, for example.

Then - cats. And did I say cats?

  • Just another Human. I enjoy cross stitch too, although currebtly learning and moving over to making graditional jointed teddy bears after 17 years plus of cross stitch.

I also am a gamer, althoigh havr no loyalty to a console or pc in particular. Currently playing through the Gears of War xbox series on co-op with my husband :) I find they challenge my processing skills in a positive way in a safe environment.

Endymion. I also find human behavioir fascinating. I took two degrees in Archaeology and am currently working as a curator of archaeological material. I feel very lucky to be able to work within my special interest area although I would like to go self employed at some point.

  • I love to watch bees on our lavender plants. I think they are bees but if you look at them closely you can see that there are lots of different looking ones. I don't know much about wasps though, sorry.

  • Bees ,wasps and ants are all related and basically bees are hairy wasps with thicker hind legs to accomadate the pollen .... but some solitary bees do look very similar to wasps and are often mistaken for wasps ... oh i just love them ... dont know why but the patterns on the wings are just so fascinating.I dont really have any photos but i have many specialist books, ''Handbooks for the identification Of British Hymenoptera...''.... i used to have lots of wasps in amber but sadly i went through a phase of .. how shal i put it .. wiping the slate clean and threw all my belongings in the bin .... boy it felt good but i guess i regret it sometimes, but hey no complaints.Oh and i do memorise wing venations as easily as say ... i dont know ... erm as easy as.... got in a loop here.....    very easily..... i think i am fascinated by flying things because i love EARLY aeroplanes aswell , but not as much as wasps.Thank you very much for your reply and i really hope you have a lovely evening.....

  • That's brilliant, I have problems telling the difference between wasps and bees.

Have you got photos of the ones you have seen it a list or samples or are they in your memory?

  • The wing venation of wasps.I can idetify most wasps by the wing pattern alone and it gives me immense satisfaction to do so.I can identify fossil wasps in amber by their wing venation. My favourite was a mutillidae wasp .... i adore wasps.

  • Hi JustAnotherHuman,

    Welcome!x

I love music! I loved watching the Eurovision Song Contest this year :)

    Much love <3

  • I haven't posted on here for a while. I find the forum controls a little confusing sometimes. But overall I like the forum, and think both it and the NAS are pretty okay Grinning

This is a really cool thread. It's good to share what people like, and what interests them. Thinking about disability and life's stresses and strains can be a bit tedious and upsetting, and I can be a real complainer and belly-acher lol.

I notice some people like music. I like that too. I have always listened to a variety of genres, and really like baroque music, early music, and pop. You Tube is good for both watching and listening to music vids. I've been revisiting a lot of ska - the specials, bad manners, and reggae too. I've been listening to a lot of Jerry Williams (she's an amazing talent - I love the guitar and her song, Mother), and also Suzanne Vega.

I like messing about with musical instruments, especially folk and 'ethnic' or 'world music' ones. There is a music shop in the city near me, and I got a djembe there - an African drum, and also an mbira, which is a little, hand held harp with meta keys. I love them both, and have come up with some cute little ditties from time to time. I find it's a good way to relax and unwind.

Someone here is into bikes. That's good. I don't have a bike, but I see lads in my area razzing around on quads, scooters, and scramblers, and wish I could have a go with them. I think they're dead cool.

The nature photos are top too. I have a camera on my mobile phone, and I take pics of the local beauty spots and parks I walk around with my Dad. I take pics of lakes, monuments, swans and birds and such like. I almost got a pic of a deer once - but I wasn't quite quick enough. Perhaps I will be luckier next time.

I also like walking, and do lots and lots of this; antiques; and going round galleries and museums occasionally. I like films too, especially sci fi, horror and good period dramas.

I also talk my ass off, and like the sound of my own voice hehe

    Thanks for this thread

  • Punk and metal wise I like The Damned, The Misfits, Pantera, Soundgarden, Kyuss, quite a lot more. I like a lot of Stoner Rock. Rock is a big genre though!

  • I've never heard of it. Will add it to my list of reading material. Thank you :)

  • Welcome to the forum. Have you read 'Animals in Translation' by Temple Grandin? You might find that interesting as it's about animal behaviour written by a woman with Autism.

  • Photography, internet, nature, music, movies and traveling.

  • Have you travelled to many places? Do you have a favourite place so far?

Child psychology is interesting, I hope you do well with your degree.

  • Feel free to go off on one lol

I understand about the film now. Sadly they don't hold my interest... can't remember the last film I watched where I gave it my full attention.

Bands... at the moment I'm really into Good Charlotte and I Prevail. However I've always loved Disturbed, Slipknot, Korn and Mudvayne. How about you?

  • Writing, poetry travelling. Walking and being outside in the sunshine and feeling good. I am interested in child psychology and will be doing a child and youth studies degree this year.

  • I don't make films I just like to try and make sense of the process (I'm not too good with a camera myself, I hate having photos taken of me too, lol), I love the way film has to make so many things work or sometimes throw things out to work! It's a crazy collage!

Music is a big thing for me, I own a few synths and drum machines but I've moved over to digital stuff on DAWs over the past 5 years. I can't read music but I can keep stuff in key, sort of self-taught. I love programming synths probably more than playing them! Which bands do you like?

Yeah I like a lot of stuff, I have to watch myself if a subject gets brought up sometimes. I tend to go off on one if someone brings up the right (or maybe wrong?, lol) thing!

  • It looks wonderfully fun. Hopefully I'll be able to try this one day (need to wait until after knee surgery). Until then it' just normal road bike.

  • Aprilia RX 80.

I rarely fall off tbh. Usually drop it on the floor below 20 mph when my boot slips on wet soil, or when front wheel slides into a deep rut.

  • Beautiful pictures, I could almost smell the greenery in those photo's! Mmmm... I miss trees.
