TV shows

I know that there is often a misunderstanding that Aspies don't have a sense of humour....

Anyone like the 'Mighty Boosh', 'Flight of the Concords' or dare  I say it 'The Inbetweeners' TV shows?

What makes you laugh?

  • I like My Name is Earl at the momentSmile

  • Hi! I have Autistic spectrum disorder. I love comedies. My favourite is friends. I watch it most days. I would watch it every day if I could. I have ocassionally watched mighty boosh which I also like. I find comedies very helpful for the stress I experience and love to laugh. I know that people on the autistic spectrum have a sense of humour as I and my friends who are also on the autistic spectrum have a sense of humour, but that we see things differently and take things literally.

    Anybody like radio comedy?

I believe 'the mighty Boosh' and 'flight of the concordes' started on radio (and is still on sometimes on 4ex). Many test their ideas on radio then transfer to TV.  There is every type of comedy on either radio 4 or 4 extra. Off-the-wall, edgy, stand-up, sketch shows, satire, situation comedies, quiz formats and a lot from long ago like Dad''s army, yes minister, steptoe, and further back Hancock's half hour, beyond our Ken etc. The situation comedy that I have found the funniest recently is "Cabin Pressure".

Yes, over the years, I have listened to many including Hancocks Half Hour, The Goon Show, Sorry I haven't a clue (Chairman Humph, may he rest in peace), Just a minute, The Now Show, The Unbelievable Truth, The News Quiz, The League of Gentleman, Dead Ringers, and others.

There is not much modern comedy that I watch, although I do enjoy watching QI and Have I Got News For You, as well as the recent series of Red Dwarf.

Other shows I have watched and loved were One foot in the grave (which I watched from it's first episode in 1990), In Sickness and in Health, Only fools and horses (up to 1996), Dad's Army, Rentaghost, Open All Hours, Porridge, Rising Damp, The fall and rise of Reginald Perrin (the original), Harry Enfield and Chums, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, Alexie Sayle's Stuff, Room 101, Frank Sidebottoms garden shed show (may he rest in peace), Girls on Top, The Young Ones, Comic Strip presents..., Bottom, Spitting Image, The New Statesman, Yes Prime Minister (the original), Red Dwarf, Friday/Saturday Night Live, Ben Elton's Man from Auntie, Steptoe and Son, Till death do us part, Hancock's Half Hour, etc.  I grew up on a diet of vintage sitcoms and alternative comedy!

  • I really enjoy watching X factor.  I have 2 favourites. They are Ella and Jahmene.  Their voices are unique. Does any one else like watching x factor?

  • Finally....... I bought a 2nd hand copy of Big Bang Theory.......Its really something that I would never have watched without the enthusiasm of people on this forum...really enjoyed it......... Wink

  • I must start watching Game Of Thrones, I've heard good reviews about it. I will put that on my list of tv shows to start watching!

  • Sherlock - yes thats brilliant!

Bing Bang Theory - I havn't seen that yet.......but ALOT of people on here seem to really like it.

Miranda - ha, thats good too...

......... watched 'Game of Thrones Series 1' recently...... not a comedy, but ACE!

....being a sound engineer sounds interesting......if I was a bit more confident and more comfortable around people I think a might enjoy doing that (a bit of a contradiction that)...

When I worked in a music venue (not in education), I really really enjoyed it. Typically bands/DJ's have ego's and are difficult. However it's a really fun job. I done lots of work in a voluntary setting until I was 100% confident, as it can be pressured when the sound vanishes and you need to found out why very quickly. Once you get off the ground it's really enjoyable. If you do it, look after you ears, get some ear defenders.

I don't really like working in education as it's too political, people have agenda's etc. However education gives me a regular salary and I dont have to tour.

  • Scrapped that post as too long!

In brief love Boosh, FOTC, Tim MInchin, Brooker, much Graham Linehan stuff, Black Books, etc etc. Comedy makes life better!

    It's great isnt it.

I've spent a lot of time in and around musicians (Im a sound engineer, making my living in education, now). Nothing massively famous.

Im sure who'ever writes Flight of the Concords has done the same, some of stories aint that far wide of the mark. Especially Mel.

I love the New Zealand Town story hehe
