Anhedonia

I've been struggling massively with this for the past 3-4 years. I'm finding great difficulty in participating in my hobbies and committing to them in any meaningful way. Before if I were to start a game or learn a new song, I'd always see it through and enjoy doing so. Now it's a struggle to even begin.

There's been the odd period of this in the past, but never anything sustained and I always found my way back to the things I enjoy. I'm able to motivate myself to get to the gym, but anything else is a struggle.

From people I've spoke to about this, some say it's just a part of getting older, but I'm still relatively young.

I was just wondering if this is a common affliction among us?

  • I've had periods of what I called 'malaise', which is not as deep as depression [I've endured that too] but a kind of apathy which pervades everything. These followed traumas like divorce and bullying at work. What boosted me were changes in lifestyle, like taking up campaigning and writing; things that challenged me and helped others too [an important part of feeling good about yourself.] Perhaps being at home alone too much is not good for your psyche, as you are used to working with others [even if that is stressful]. Are you a cause or campaign person? Having something new to focus on, that you really believe in, might help. Also, try this website and see if it chimes - 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Best wishes and keep posting on this community.
