  • A couple of years ago, I had an issue after a circumcision procedure that didn’t seem to resolve, as the pain and discomfort lingered for weeks. Because of this, I went back to the private hospital where the operation was done, but they just told me everything looked fine and to keep taking painkillers, assuring me it would be okay.

I did so, but the pain became increasingly unbearable, so I made several trips to my local A&E, only to be told again that everything seemed fine and was sent home. Eventually, after consulting several more caregivers and being told to just get on with it, I became desperate and felt there was nowhere left to turn for help.

I think this clearly shows that you’re treated like any other person, with no consideration for whether there are sensory issues involved, leaving you to simply get on with it.

It did clear up eventually, but I had some dark thoughts at the time and could have used some proper counselling.
