I would benefit from lifelong therapy

I have been in and out of therapy for over 6 years now and one of them was a therapy relationship for over 3 years. It ended dreadfully after she had a mental breakdown but it profoundly changed me overall and despite ethical mistakes at the end, she truly helped me so much.

I have complex trauma and autism so I see the world through a different lens, the world is not built for people like us.

I tend to fall apart without professional support to help coregulate me. I like having a safe space. It is difficult becasue it is all supposed to be time limited and goal focused.

I guess I struggle and I also feel shame from long term therapy. Therapy is also really hard to access, i have been lucky so far, except for the unethical things that left me harmed.

I feel like I have many traumatic memories that would not feel so traumatising to a NT because it would be less confusing.

I don't know.

I am working on finding groups etc.

  • Hi NAS84324,

Thank you for reaching out to our online community.

Sorry to hear you’ve been struggling, and that you’ve had such a difficult experience with therapy despite how much it has also helped you. It makes sense that you’d value having a safe space and professional support.

We have services directory where you can search for support groups in your local area:  https://www.autism.org.uk/autism-services-directory

You may also wish to speak with your GP, who may be able to recommend local groups and other support.

    I hope this is helpful.
