Nothing is being taken seriously anymore

This is my conclusion after today's situation. I suddenly started feeling weak. Didn't know, why. It's nothing unusual that I feel bad and don't know, why. One colleague talked to me and asked if I feel unwell and suggested that I make a break. When I mentioned being in a diagnostic process,  he started laughing. I asked him why he was laughing. I didn't find it funny. And I added that im waiting for my blood test results. Then he said, that he thought,  that I was diagnosing myself. I asked, why should I do it. He answered that there are all kind of idiots in this world. It hit me, but decided to not continue this topic. Because I knew, I wouldn't get any bit of understanding from him. He laughed and said something else under his breath but when I asked what did he say, he said nothing. Later I couldn't stop thinking about it. I want to emphasise,  that I didn't mention any specific diagnosis, or suspected diagnosis, past diagnosis etc. I just felt bad again and mentioned diagnostic process and blood tests. Maybe this guy uses tiktok and stumbled upon self diagnosed people with all kind of conditions etc. And maybe that was the reason for his reaction. Or maybe nobody takes me seriously,  because as I already heard, its visible, that there is something wrong with me.

I can't stop thinking about it. What his reaction meant, why he laughed and what does it have to do with me, or not with me. Im Sorry, just sharing. Maybe someone has any idea.

  • His reaction is that of an idiot! You are not an idiot, nor are your problems a laughing matter. I think that a lot of people who are uncomfortable with health issues laugh at them as a sort of displacement activity for thier discomfort. Maybe he has been online and seen people worry themselves half to death over a self diagnosis, I think self diagnosis has become easier sinse the internet, before it was reading medical books and convincing your self that you had all kinds of horrible illnesses.

I know its hard, but try not to take on board the reactions of an idiot and a cruel one at that, hold onto your own truth, not his. You are doing everything right, you've gone to a doctor who's doing tests and you're waiting for the results, that nothing to be ashamed of or to laugh at, or be embaressed about.

It does throw you of course when something like this happens, I wonder how he thought you should react? You were already feeling unwell, I wonder if he'd of found it so funny if you'd of been sick on his shoes or something.

  • I agree, but I also think that it's easy to confuse self diagnosis with suspicion of having a condition. I suspect, that I may have some hormonal issues but I don't say that I have it until I gwt the answer from the doctor. And when it comes to autism I'm also not sure that I have it until I get the final answer. Having the fast access to all sort of information is good and bad. Bad is an example of someone diagnosing themselves with autism, because they are doing the same thing as XYZ tiktoker, who say, they're autistic. But good thing is of course access to a lot of useful information. Anyway a thing such as medical diagnosis should come from a professional,  and not from myself. So I was very much amazed at what that colleague told me.

  • Not all autistic self diagnosis is bad a lot of people self diagnostic because they feel different and they learn about what autistic really is and it explains a lot about them.

But tik tok self daignosis is very harmful my doctor told me. A lot of people ask to be diagnosed because they are "quirky"

Like no if you can function 100% all the time don't have communication issues or sensory issues etc but are a bit quirky dobt self diagnosie as autistic
