Nothing is being taken seriously anymore

This is my conclusion after today's situation. I suddenly started feeling weak. Didn't know, why. It's nothing unusual that I feel bad and don't know, why. One colleague talked to me and asked if I feel unwell and suggested that I make a break. When I mentioned being in a diagnostic process,  he started laughing. I asked him why he was laughing. I didn't find it funny. And I added that im waiting for my blood test results. Then he said, that he thought,  that I was diagnosing myself. I asked, why should I do it. He answered that there are all kind of idiots in this world. It hit me, but decided to not continue this topic. Because I knew, I wouldn't get any bit of understanding from him. He laughed and said something else under his breath but when I asked what did he say, he said nothing. Later I couldn't stop thinking about it. I want to emphasise,  that I didn't mention any specific diagnosis, or suspected diagnosis, past diagnosis etc. I just felt bad again and mentioned diagnostic process and blood tests. Maybe this guy uses tiktok and stumbled upon self diagnosed people with all kind of conditions etc. And maybe that was the reason for his reaction. Or maybe nobody takes me seriously,  because as I already heard, its visible, that there is something wrong with me.

I can't stop thinking about it. What his reaction meant, why he laughed and what does it have to do with me, or not with me. Im Sorry, just sharing. Maybe someone has any idea.

  • I'm sorry you had to experience that, especially when you were already feeling unwell. From what you've described, you simply said you were going through a diagnostic process and waiting for blood test results, so his assumption about self-diagnosing seems to have been entirely his own. His laughter and comments were insensitive, and you didn't do anything wrong by mentioning what was happening. Try not to attach too much meaning to his reaction because you may never know what was behind it. Most importantly, I hope your results bring you some clarity and that you're feeling better soon.

  • Self diagnlsising through tik tok alone bad idea but if you use resources such as the aq 50 you get a good sense weather thisnis the path you should be looking at

I looked into all sorts of things such as bpd too which whilst it had some cross over looking for a diagnosis of that would of been the wrong thing

Often people who aelf diagnos using proper tools have a relative who is diagnosed and they share the traits used to diagnlios said relative

And when you get told as a child you won't stop going on about a subject or your young for your age or you are over sensitive these things do add up and it's unlikely to not be autisim

But unfortunately a lot of tik tok people think autism just about vocal stims and safe foods(chicken nuggets)

Self diagnosis as a means to self medication is bad... Well at least it is if your looking to use medication... If your looking to try supliments thats not too bad as long as you do your research I my self havevl suspected ADHD and when I do take supliments it eases my struggles some what so. I'm hoping that if it is ADHD that medication can fit in along side the supliments to make a clearer mind

It's all about doing things for the right reasons a medical professional will provide you with the right medical treatment or the right therapy doing so off a self diagnosis may lead to therapy or treatment that doesn't work or makes things worse

Without swlf diagnosis i wouldn't currently have thints that work like my ear defenders and my sensory light

  • This is awful behaviour from him. He sounds so ignorant in believing that people can self diagnose themselves (they 100% can). Self diagnosis shows great awareness, strength and maturity, to have the knowledge in recognising a condition and then looking to address it. Your title makes a lot of sense, a lot of people's suffering is desensitised and not considered properly.

It's understandable to replay such a rude reaction, I think a lot of us here have been in similar positions. The nasty behaviour is so unnecessary, especially for you who is/was going through a hard time physically. Love is the absence of judgement.

    How are you doing now?

  • I'm not saying, that self diagnosis is bad, I'm saying that in my opinion there is a confusion between self diagnosis and suspected diagnosis. I'm not 100% sure if I'm autistic, I suspect,  my therapist too, I'm exploring this possibility and I'm here because of the similarity of experience mine and others here. And I do function to some degree in everyday life, but have constant verbal and non verbal  misunderstandings with others and a lot of sensory issues. My therapist seems to be very much convinced that im autistic. But I will have the final answer after the assessment.  I think there will also be Imposter like many people here.

  • I just received my blood test results. Generally OK, but as I suspected- hormones are not OK. I have to handle it further and show it to my therapist and tge assessor.

  • Not all autistic self diagnosis is bad a lot of people self diagnostic because they feel different and they learn about what autistic really is and it explains a lot about them.

But tik tok self daignosis is very harmful my doctor told me. A lot of people ask to be diagnosed because they are "quirky"

Like no if you can function 100% all the time don't have communication issues or sensory issues etc but are a bit quirky dobt self diagnosie as autistic

  • I agree, but I also think that it's easy to confuse self diagnosis with suspicion of having a condition. I suspect, that I may have some hormonal issues but I don't say that I have it until I gwt the answer from the doctor. And when it comes to autism I'm also not sure that I have it until I get the final answer. Having the fast access to all sort of information is good and bad. Bad is an example of someone diagnosing themselves with autism, because they are doing the same thing as XYZ tiktoker, who say, they're autistic. But good thing is of course access to a lot of useful information. Anyway a thing such as medical diagnosis should come from a professional,  and not from myself. So I was very much amazed at what that colleague told me.

  • His reaction is that of an idiot! You are not an idiot, nor are your problems a laughing matter. I think that a lot of people who are uncomfortable with health issues laugh at them as a sort of displacement activity for thier discomfort. Maybe he has been online and seen people worry themselves half to death over a self diagnosis, I think self diagnosis has become easier sinse the internet, before it was reading medical books and convincing your self that you had all kinds of horrible illnesses.

I know its hard, but try not to take on board the reactions of an idiot and a cruel one at that, hold onto your own truth, not his. You are doing everything right, you've gone to a doctor who's doing tests and you're waiting for the results, that nothing to be ashamed of or to laugh at, or be embaressed about.

It does throw you of course when something like this happens, I wonder how he thought you should react? You were already feeling unwell, I wonder if he'd of found it so funny if you'd of been sick on his shoes or something.
